Fellow Drammers!
We’re going to Wyoming! On September 26th, co-founder David DeFazio will lead us through a barrel pick and virtual distillery tour, and we’ll be there in person with Darren Rowe and the distillery team for an in-depth tour. Then we’ll do a barrel pick for the club, and as usual, it will be you, our members, who decide which barrel we select. Everyone who signs up will be eligible, and we’ll pick names out of a hat to create our tasting committee, who will select the cask by majority vote. And whether or not you’re selected for the tasting committee, everyone will get taste 5 of their expressions (below). We had the pleasure of welcoming David DeFazio to our NYC chapter almost exactly one year ago, and after following up, we’ve become one of the few groups they’ve permitted to do a single cask selection with, which is wonderful. Here are the whiskies we’ll be tasting on the 26th:
Cask Strength Bourbon - these bottles are shockingly hard to find, clearly a very limited release (we read somewhere that only 55 bottles were released). We were only able to secure 2 bottles for an eye-popping $1,106! Coming in at a whopping 62.35%. (no age statement)
Double-Cask - Bourbon finished in sherry casks, 50% abv
Small Batch Bourbon, 44% abv, which Mark Gillespie of WhiskyCast called one of the best bourbons he’s ever tasted
Outryder 7yo American Whiskey - this is a fun one. It’s a blend of two mashbills: 48% winter rye, 40% corn, 12% malted barley, the other 68% corn, 20% winter rye, 12% malted barley, and combined it doesn’t qualify as a bourbon or a rye, hence american whiskey.
Plus a single cask selection that will be a surprise.
That’s our lineup, 5 whiskies in total! Those of you who are selected to be on the tasting committee will get the samples on top of the 5 expressions above.
