WHEN: TUESDAY, AUGUST 11th, STARTING AT 8PM EST
Fellow Drammers!
We’re delighted to continue our series of benefit events to support important whiskey bars and their staff. We’ve done 3 to date, proudly raising money to support Wheated and Travel Bar in Brooklyn, the great mezcal bar Ghost Donkey in Manhattan, and we’re expanding our focus beyond NYC next month with a benefit event for Jack Rose Saloon in Washington DC on September 1st. But we would be remiss if we did not do something for one of our favorite whiskey bars on the planet: Brandy Library in Tribeca, NYC. These bars have had an enormous impact on so many of our club members, and they are truly great shrines to our favorite brown spirit. But like all bars right now during the covid shutdown, they are facing an enormous challenge to keep things going and of course this has affected the livelihood of their staff. So we wanted to do our part to help. All of the proceeds will be donated to support their GoFundMe campaign. We’ve assembled an incredible lineup of 7 major guest speakers, presenting 10 extraordinary whiskies (and one brandy!). In no particular order:
Greg King, the Senior Single Malt Ambassador for BenRiach and GlenDronach will be presenting 5 expressions:
GlenDronach 19yo from an Oloroso Sherry Butt, single cask, 55.7% abv
2 varieties of GlenDronach 15yo - we’ll do a head-to-head comparison of the new 15yo against the pre-2015 bottling (which was a 100% ex-oloroso cask), so everyone will get to try them side-by-side. The 2015 was oloroso matured, the new 15yo is matured in a mix of PX and oloroso sherry casks. It’ll be a tough competition - the new 15yo was just voted Best in Show at the San Francisco Spirits Competition. It’s appropriate because they actually launched the new 15yo at the Brandy Library with Rachel Barrie back in October 2018.
BenRiach 2005 Release - Peated and matured in a port pipe cask, 12yo, 53.6% abv
BenRiach 1995 Release 18yo, Tawny port finish, single cask, 55.5% abv
Lisa Roper Wicker, Head Distiller of Widow Jane Distillery in Red Hook, will present their 10yo bourbon, 45.5% abv
Brian Treacy, President of Sagamore Spirits in Baltimore, will present their straight rye whiskey, 41.5% abv
Garrison Brothers Distillery in Texas will present their soon-to-be-released Honey Dew release (straight bourbon infused with honey)
Dave Schmier, Founder of Redemption Rye and so many other great whiskies, will present a special early bottle of 7yo Redemption Rye, 61.6% abv
Casa Lumbre Spirits will present their Abasolo, 100% ancestral corn Mexican whisky, 43% abv
Daniel Farber, founder of Osocalis brandy, will present their XO Alambic Brandy, 40% abv
7 guest speakers! 11 pours! And best of all, the proceeds will be donated to the GoFundMe for the staff of Brandy Library and Copper & Oak, so please spread the word and let’s raise some real money for these folks (note that unlike most of our events, this event is open to non-members).
