[UPDATE - THE INITIAL SET A OF BUNNAHABHAIN SOLD OUT, SO WE’VE ADDED A SET B WITH A 40YO, 39YO AND 38YO)

Fellow Drammers!

Islay fans rejoice! We are thrilled to announce that Stephen Woodcock, the Distilleries Manager overseeing Bunnahabhain (not to mention Deanston and Tobermory) has agreed to be our guest speaker on Friday, October 9th, starting at 3pm EST / Noon Pacific (early for us, but worth it - he is joining us from Scotland after all!). Needless to say, we’ve pulled out all the stops, and have been collecting rare Bunna bottles from collectors and at auction for eight months now, so we’ve assembled one helluva lineup! We’re waiting on confirmation on exactly which bottles the Bunnahabhain team is able to contribute, but in the meantime, check out the bottles we’ve secured:

SET B:

  • 40 year old Bunnahabhain. Bottled by Malts of Scotland, Bourbon hogshead matured, cask #4066, bottled in 2010 for Thomas Ewers’ 40th birthday, 40.5% abv. 1 of 299.

  • 39 year old Bunnahabhain. Rare Auld Bottled by Duncan Taylor, Cask #7020, 1 of 171 bottles bottled in 2007 at cask strength of 40.5% abv

  • 38 year old Bunnahabhain. Sherry cask matured, 50.2% abv, Cask #3463 bottled by Malts of Scotland in 2011, 1 of 216 bottles,

SET A (SOLD OUT)

  • 41 year old Bunnahabhain. Bottled by Adelphi, 41.2% abv. 1 of 719 bottles. Taken from 2 sister casks, the packaging describes the tasting notes as “wonderfully aromatic, reminiscent of an old-fashioned ladies handbag…. soft scented leather, face cream, cold cream, powder compact, lingering perfume…”. It goes on but you get the idea. Can’t wait to try it!

  • 36yo Peerless Bottling by Duncan Taylor. Distilled in 1966 and bottled in 2003 at 40.7% abv, 1 of 222 bottles.

  • 34yo Jim McEwan’s Celtic Heartlands. Distilled in 1973, bottled in 2008, 46.1% abv, 1 of 668 bottles. All the barrels in the Celtic Heartlands series were hand-picked by Jim McEwan and today all of them sell for thousands of dollars per bottle. Per the packaging, “forget what you know about Islay Malts with their huge peat smoke and iodine. With the smoke all but a whisper, this vintage Bunnie is beautifully elegant. First there is charcoal, mushroom/truffle, an earthiness at the back of the palate which with time reveals itself to be dried orange peel, honey and a hint of marzipan. A quiet, unassuming Islay that deserves to be the belle of the ball.”

Plus what our friends at Bunnahabhain are contributing! Both SET A and SET B will include:

  • Tobermory 12

  • Bunna 08 Manzanilla

  • Deanston 02 Pinot Noir

  • Deanston 91 Muscat

  • Deanston Dragons Milk

We hope you’re able to join!
