Fellow Drammers!
Waterford has arrived, and we couldn’t be happier! This is the new Irish whiskey from whiskey maverick Mark Reynier, who also revitalized Bruichladdich and created the Murray McDavid line. With Bruichladdich he made a major push arguing for the importance of terroir in whisky, but he wanted to take the experiments further, and having successfully sold Bruichladdich, he turned his attention to the ultimate terroir project, this time setting up shop in Ireland, and creating a system of single farm distillations to isolate the different terroirs of the whiskeys. Now, we know not everyone in the whisk(e)y world believes in terroir, so this is going to be one hell of an interesting project to watch. The initial release was 3 farms in the UK, which sold out within hours, which they followed up with a couple more a month later that sold out just as fast. We’ve been hunting for months and managed to secure 2 bottles of three of those 1.1 edition releases: Bannow Island, Ballykilcavan and Sheestown. And now they’re about to hit US shores in early October, and we’re honored to be among the first to celebrate with their head distiller Ned Gahan. So alongside the 3 UK releases, we’ll be trying all four releases coming to the US, the Gaia, Dunmore, Rathclough and Dunbell. Plus we’ll get to try some new make spirit as well as a special treat! More details to come on all the impressive things Mark, Ned and the team are doing to isolate the terroir elements, but we wanted to get this up right away so that folks could plan. Please note the start time - Sunday, October 11th at 2pm EST / 11am Pacific / 19:00 in Ireland! Early for our West Coast friends, but worth it, we promise, and a very special opportunity to try the European releases.
