Fellow Drammers!
We kept bumping into these folks everywhere we went, so we figured it was time we took a closer look. You may recall that during our event with Peerless, their rye finished in absinthe stood out — that was a Copper & Kings absinthe barrel. And again when we did our event with Bardstown Bourbon Co., some of their highest end releases featured collaborations with Copper & Kings. So, when we were in Kentucky back in August, we made a point to visit the distillery, where they focus on American Brandy, but also make lots of other fun stuff (we actually fell in love with a gin they’d made and matured in a sherry cask and bought it for the club). Basically they’re doing all sorts of creative combinations down there, and so we decided we wanted to get in on the action. So, on December 8th, starting at 8pm EST, we’ll be doing a barrel pick, and we have 150ml or so of each of 4 awesome barrel samples with their Master Distiller Brandon O’Daniel. Obviously 150ml is not enough for everyone to try, but we’ll pick names out of a hat from everyone who signs up to help us decide, and in the meantime, we’ve secured some fun experimental barrels that you can only get at their distillery, which everyone who signs up for the event will get to try:
An apple-based gin finished in a sherry cask — this is the one that Charlie and Sean Crain (head of our Indianapolis chapter) fell in love with when they visited the distillery, and we bought the barrel for the club (Drammers #027, up on our site now in the Bottles section).
Another apple-based gin 2yo, and if I can read my handwriting it was aged in a Four Roses barrel (we’re confirming the barrel)
6.5yo Grape Brandy aged entirely in a Woodford Reserve Cask
6yo Grape Brandy matured in a Catoctin Creek barrel
A crazy blend of 75% apple brandy, 25% Flor de Cana Rum
5.5yo Apple Brandy that spent 2.5 years in an ex-Port barrel
We might add something to this mix, but either way, this should give you a sense of the fun experimental stuff they’re doing, and it tastes damn good. No wonder seemingly everyone in Kentucky is anxious to work with them. We hope you can join us!
