Fellow Drammers!

We’re about to kick off our Drammers Long Island chapter with a bang! Our chapter head Matt Lurin has generously agreed to host in his backyard, for an outdoor, socially-distanced get together capped at 25 people, with room for up to 10 more to join the tasting by Zoom. That will very likely sell out nearly instantly given our guest speakers and our lineup, but everyone is encouraged to grab a bottle locally and join in the fun over Zoom if they want. The theme of the event is a Japanese whisky vs. Scotch showdown, and we’re keeping it all in the Beam Suntory family this month. We’re delighted to welcome back our two guest speakers, who have both spoken at Drammers Club events in the past — none other than Laphroaig’s Master Brand Ambassador Simon Brooking and Beam Suntory’s Japanese Whisky Brand Ambassador Gardner Dunn! This is shaping up to be one epic, epic showdown between some unreal whiskies on both sides of the ring. Then we’ll bring it altogether in a group hug with one of the most unicorn Japanese/Scotch crossover bottles: the Bowmore “very limited release” Mizunara Cask Finish, bottled at 53.9% abv. If you haven’t heard of this bottle, look it up and you’ll see what I’m talking about.  And check out the rest of this lineup:

Team Japanese Whisky:

  • Hakushu Heavily Peated

  • Hakushu 18yo

  • Yamazaki 12yo Sherry Component

  • Toki

Team Scotch:

  • Teacher’s (dusty, approx. 1940s)

  • Auchentoshan Bartender’s Malt Batch 1

  • Ardmore 9yo ex-bourbon cask from Duncan Taylor 53% abv

  • Glen Garioch 14yo sherry finish

  • Laphroaig 10yo cask strength (60.1% abv)

Group hug:

  • Bowmore Mizunara Cask Finish, 53.9% abv

Please note, this event will likely sell out as soon as we send this email, so just a quick note to understand why — this event was intended as an in-person event only, but since we’re capping in-person attendance at 25 for social distancing reasons, we are able to accommodate 8 spots to join by Zoom, assuming we can get approximately 33 pours out of the bottles.  But we have lots of other exciting events coming up, and like we said, all of our Drammers Members and Drammers Observers are welcome to grab a bottle on their own and join by Zoom for the conversation.

  • $75/person for Drammers Members

  • $100/person for Drammers Observers

As always, while we do not anticipate any changes, the lineup is subject to change.
