Mar. 7: Drammers Book Club: "The Terroir of Whisky" and TX Whiskey Tasting with author and Head Distiller Rob Arnold

Fellow Drammers,

This event will double as both a chance to explore the full range of the TX Whiskey line AND it will be the next entry in our Drammers Book Club event, since their head distiller Rob Arnold just published a book on a topic near and dear to our hearts here at Drammers Club: The Terroir of Whiskey: A Distiller’s Journey into the Flavor of Place (which was just published on December 22, 2020) . Initially we’d simply asked if Rob was able to join for a discussion of his book, thinking maybe we’d source some of his whiskeys and other terroir-forward releases as part of the tasting. And then Rob and the team at Firestone & Robertson Distilling Co. surprised us (they are the owner of the “TX Whiskey” and “TX Bourbon” brands, with a distillery near downtown Fort Worth). They offered to contribute their entire line of releases, both their core range products and their very limited special releases that you can only get at the distillery! As a result, we’re able to offer this event for only $10/person for Drammers Members! And it is a fantastic opportunity to try these whiskies (even the core range whiskies are only available in a few states mostly near Texas).

The Firestone and Robertson Distillery was founded in 2010 and in late 2019 they partnered with Pernod Ricard (most of the articles about it called it an “acquisition”, but sounds like the founders are also still very involved, so we’ll have to ask Rob what the dynamic is). In any case, we’ll be trying nearly all of their releases, including:

• TX Bottled-in-Bond Single Barrel

• TX Experimental Rye

• TX Straight Bourbon

• TX Blended Whiskey

• TX Bourbon Port Finish

• TX Bourbon Sherry Finish

 The tasting kit does NOT include the book, The Terroir of Whiskey: A Distiller’s Journey into the Flavor of Place, which is available online both in hardcover ($27) and e-book ($14.57) form. Let’s all show our appreciation for them donating all this great whiskey by buying his book! Btw, he also published another book, Shots of Knowledge: The Science of Whiskey, which shows up as unavailable on Amazon (one used copy for over $100!), but is actually available on the distillery’s website for $35 (hardcover), just FYI.
