Fellow Drammers!
We’re excited to announce that our club is buying two private casks from the Milk & Honey Distillery (or the M&H Distillery as they prefer to be called now). This will be a joint, simultaneous event with our Tel Aviv chapter — they’ll pick a barrel, we’ll pick a barrel, and since each group will have different samples, we’ll be connected over Zoom so we can discuss what we’re tasting and try to make sure we end up with two very different barrels (and hey, doing it together is more fun anyway!). And joining us to help guide us in our barrel pick process and answer questions will be their head distiller Tomer Goren and their International Sales Manager Tel Chotiner, plus Joshua Hatton and our friends at Impex.
This is really special. We’d actually planned an event in April of last year for our Tel Aviv chapter to do a barrel pick in person with the M&H team, which of course we had to cancel due to the pandemic, and here we are, almost exactly a year later, doing two barrels together — call it a down payment until we can visit our friends in Tel Aviv in person again, hopefully soon. Btw, for our Tel Aviv members, we’re awaiting confirmation, but you’re likely going to be able to meet in person to select your barrel, and we’ll figure out a way to have that get together plugged into Zoom. You can sign up here, and Yechiel, the head of our Tel Aviv chapter, will be coordinating the logistics on the TLV side.
As for what we’ll be drinking, we’ll update you on that as soon as we have more details. But we can tell you that M&H is being very generous and giving us a full bottle of each barrel sample, so everyone who signs up will be able to taste them and vote on which barrel we’re picking. Of course, we drank through a lot of their rarest bottles when we did our massive tasting with them back on May 10th of last year (the full recording is here on the site under the Video Library tab). So this will probably overlap with that, as of course we’ll want to have their core range on hand to compare to our barrel pick options if you want, and we’ll have a few other fun surprises too.
