Fellow Drammers!
Jim McEwan is a legend and obviously needs little introduction. After resurrecting Bruichladdich into one of the best Scotch brands out there, he is now widely recognized as one of the great treasures of the whisky world. And now he has partnered with the independent bottlers DramFool to release 27 casks from his private collection. This tasting will be going through the first 6 releases, led by Mr. McEwan himself, along with Bruce Farquhar and Colin Fraser, the owners of DramFool and their representative here in the US (and our good friend and fellow Drammer) Mario Campa. We’re big fans of what DramFool is doing (among other things, they put out the first Rhythm and Booze bottling for our friend Felipe Schrieberg of our London chapter — you may recall we had announced an event celebrating their Rhythm and Booze project for December which we had to postpone for now due to pandemic-related complications).
In any case, the event will be tasting the following 6 expressions (25ml of each):
Bruichladdich 2008. 12yo first fill bourbon barrel, cask #2666, 215 bottles, 59.8% abv, release 2.1.
Bruichladdich 2007. 12yo first fill Bordeaux cask, cask #R08/153-12, 265 bottles, 61.8% abv, release 1.1
Port Charlotte 2010. 10yo first fill bourbon cask, cask #1415, 257 bottles, 59.4% abv, release 2.2
Port Charlotte 2007, 13yo first fill Bordeaux cask, Cask #R08/152-12, 299 bottles, 60.9% abv, release 1.2
Octomore 2013, 7yo first fill bourbon cask, Cask #1872, 256 bottles, 62.3% abv, release 2.3
Octomore 2007, 13yo first fill Sauternes cask, cask #3807, 290 bottles, 57.5% abv, release 1.3
That last one, btw, is one of the oldest Octomores ever bottled (a chateau d’yquem cask). In any case, we hope you can join us, and apologies in advance that we only have a limited number of sets, but it promises to be a wonderful event and a great opportunity to chat with Jim McEwan who is truly one of the most wonderful figures in the whisky world. A huge thank you to Mario for making this possible. Cheers!
