Fellow Drammers!

It’s Cognac time! We’re delighted to welcome the Global Brand Ambassador for Hennessy, Jordan Bushell as our guest speaker on June 1st starting at 5pm Pacific / 8pm Eastern. We’ll be tasting 5 expressions, their VSOP, plus all four of the releases in their Master Blender series (don’t hold us to it, but we’re hearing this may be the first vertical tasting of all 4 together? Edition one is long sold out at this point, we tracked one down for about $700 all in). The Master Blender Series are limited edition one-offs essentially, created by their 8th generation Master Blender Renaud Fillioux de Gironde (he recently succeeded his uncle Yann Fillioux in the role). The Master Blender Series was launched in 2016 (we’ll confirm with Jordan, but we believe Yann created editions 1 and 2, and Renaud picked things up with release number 3…).

Master Blender’s Series N’4 - matured in red oak, which means the casks used for the blend have previously held Cognac and are of a significant age - signified by their dark, reddish color.

Master Blender’s Series N’3 - This craft cognac used 20 rare eaux-de-vie (French for a clear, colorless fruit brandy) that are at least seven years old and have never been used in any of their previous expression. They are aged in young French oak barrels and finished in older Hennessy casks.

Master Blender’s Series N’2 - the youngest eau-de-vie is at least ten years old (X.O. qualifying). The eaux-de-vie were each aged first for 18 months in young coarse-grained French oak barrels and then aged further in old oak barrels.

Master Blender’s Series N’1 - Hennessy’s master blender and cellar master Yann Filloux along with the tasting committee, selected 80 to 100 eaux-de-vie ranging in age from 5 to 15 years to create the Master Blend Selection 1. According to Hennessy, Master’s Blend Selection No. 1 is the first in a series of “rare and limited offerings”. Hennessy Notes that Master’s Blend Selection 1 was released only in the United States and that “when Selection Nº1 is exhausted, it will not be available again. 43% (86 proof). Oak: Two- to four-year-old Limousin oak.

VSOP: For comparison, we’ll be trying their core-range VSOP release.

We hope you can join us!
