Fellow Drammers!

We’re excited to welcome the founder and master distiller David Zibell on Sunday, January 10th, starting at Noon Pacific / 3pm EST / 22:00 in Israel. We made a point to visit David at his distillery a couple years ago before launching our Tel Aviv chapter, and we’ve been anxiously awaiting the moment when we could share his fantastic whiskies with our members here in the US. Our Stamford CT chapter got a sneak peak with one of his single malts last year, but at this event we’ll be trying 5 of his exciting whiskies, plus an extra special treat — the very first whiskey released by the new Jerusalem (or Yerushalmi) Distillery, which David oversees as the master distiller with the help of our friends Nitai Morgenstern (Distillery Manager) and Amir Las (Master Brewer). We’re also grateful to call them our friends, and even had the honor of visiting their distillery the day their first whisky white dog came off the still, so that we were able to taste it together with their distillery team. This first release was a hot commodity in Israel and instantly sold out, but they were nice enough to set aside a bottle for us to try here at Drammers. We had initially announced an event with David at our Tel Aviv chapter in April, which was of course put on hold due to the covid19 pandemic. In any case, thanks to David’s generosity in donating all of these bottles, we’re able to offer this at cost to members of just $10/person. But keep in mind we only have one bottle of each expression, so it will likely sell out. Here’s what we’ll be tasting:

  • Golani - Double Wood Matured Two Grain Israeli Whisky. Concerto malted barley and local wheat, using a 60 hour fermentation, then matured in 225L ex-red wine and new charred oak casks. 64.2% abv.

  • Golani Black - Single Cask. Charred Oak matured Israeli Two Grain Whiskey. Same as the first expression, but this is a single new charred oak cask. 64.5% abv.

  • Golani Vino - Single Cask. Same as the first expression, this time a single barrel from the red wine side (Cabernet oak matured Israeli two-grain whisky). 55.3% abv.

  • Golan Heights Distillery - Brewer’s Whisky. Distilled beer matured in oak casks. This beer was brewed at Bazelet for their amber ale. The Golan Heights distillery double distilled it, then matured it for at least 24 months in a 225L porter cask. 50% abv.

  • Golan Heights Distillery - Unicask - Single Malt Whisky (Cask Strength). Distilled in July 2017, bottled in October 2020, 19% angel’s share. Matured in a 225L first fill nectar oak dessert wine cask. 62.% abv.

  • Yerushalmi Distillery’s First Release! Mount Moriah Israeli Peated Single Malt. Double oak matured in rum and French oak casks. Like the Golan Heights releases, these are all non-chill filtered and natural color. Batch #1! Bottled in August 2020, this is 1 of 1,500 bottles. 46.3% abv.

That’s our lineup, we hope you can join us. To say that this is a very rare opportunity to try these fantastic whiskies before they hit our shores here in the USA is a major understatement. Cheers!
