Fellow Drammers,

On Saturday, February 27th, starting at Noon Pacific, 3pm Eastern, 20:00 in Scotland, we’re delighted to welcome Matthew Cordiner, the global brand ambassador for the Bacardi single malts, including the two we’ll be focusing on for this event, Aberfeldy and Deveron (made at Macduff Distillery). The Bacardi team also owns the distilleries Craigellachie, Aultmore and Royal Brackla, and we’re hoping to do a separate event focused on those distilleries later this year. The Macduff distillery was founded in 1962, and the name has alternated between Glen Deveron and Macduff historically, with most of their releases over the years branded Glen Deveron or Deveron, though we’ll be trying some labeled under each (It’s a little confusing, but we understand they can no longer use the Macduff name due to legal restrictions that came along with past sales of the distillery, so today it’s all “Deveron”). We had some time to really dig in to the auction markets for this one, so together with the bottles coming from our friends at Bacardi, we’ve got one helluva a lineup:

  • 40yo Macduff Single Malt. It doesn’t get much older than this, especially considering the distillery was only founded 7 years earlier. Distilled in 1969, our club secured this Douglas Laing independent bottling at auction a while back. It’s bottled at cask strength of 41.7% abs. It is an incredible, and obviously very rare opportunity to try something this old — 40 year old Single Malt Scotch is rare in any context, but especially rare when it comes to this distillery.

  • Glen Deveron 30yo. An incredible gift from our friends at Bacardi, this 30 year old bottling would be the headliner any other day. It is no longer available anywhere.

  • The Deveron 18yo. Part of their core range in Europe but not available in the USA.

  • The Deveron 12yo. Again, part of their core range in Europe but not available in the USA. YO – Core range (not available in USA) – will be nice to compare alongside….

  • Glen Deveron, 12yo Distilled in 1985. We love doing this kind of thing. This is an official distillery bottling, distilled in 1985, so approximately 23 years earlier than their current core-range 12 year old. Should be great fun to see how their 12 year product has evolved over the years. 40% abv.

  • Aberfeldy 25yo. Distilled in 1993, 58.8% abv, Gordon & Macphail bottling, another gem we were able to source at auction.

  • Aberfeldy 20yo Exceptional Cask. USA exclusive finished in Sauterne Wine Casks

  • Aberfeldy 18yo Exceptional Cask. French Red Wine Cask Finish (Pauillac)

  • Aberfeldy 12yo. Core Range as an introduction

That is one helluva lineup, 9 expressions, many we’ll never get a change to taste again. And a great opportunity to spend time with their global brand ambassador Matthew Cordiner, joining us live from Scotland. We hope you can join us!

Cheers,
Charlie
