Fellow Drammers!
We last welcomed Matt Hoffman, the Master Distiller at Westland, on June 11, 2018 and we last welcomed their Commercial Director Chris Riesbeck to our kickoff Zoom tasting on April 3rd of last year, but for that event we had a number of guest speakers, and the truth is we’re been dying to do a deep-dive into all things Westland for some time now. Looking back at what we tasted in 2018, we had an array of single cask picks of theirs from SMWS, Single Cask Nation and others, and it is an incredible feeling that this time we’ll be tasting two of our own club single barrel picks, one medium-peated, one heavily peated, and we remain incredibly proud to have bought the very last two casks out of their single program before they shut it down a little over a year ago. But we’ll also be trying a couple of other very special releases, including a 2018 edition of their rightly-celebrated Garryana special release, their distillery-only Peat Week 2017 bottling (which as chance would have it we also tasted at our 2018 meeting), plus a very special single barrel Garryana bottling, arguably the rarest Westland our Club will have tasted to date, plus of course all three releases in their core range and two more bottles to be named later for a total of 10 expressions and one fantastic tasting.
