Fellow Drammers!
Another of our friends from Oaxaca will be in town in February. On Tuesday, Feb. 11th, we’ll have the honor of hosting Dalton Kreiss as our guest speaker. He’s an American transplant who lives in Oaxaca, where he started his wonderful mezcal-of-the-month club that he calls Maguey Melate (we had a meeting with him Skyping in to our LA chapter a couple months back, and now he’ll be in town in NYC with us!). What I particularly love about the way he’s doing it, is he goes out of his way to profile and empower the local mezcaleros, so each month’s release works as a kind of profile piece on the mezcalero of that month. When our group was down in Oaxaca last October for our 3rd annual Day of the Dead mezcal tour, we had the pleasure of visiting with the mezcalero featured in one of Dalton’s newest releases — Ageo Cortes. So at the meeting we’ll be trying a sampling of their most recent releases, including an exquisite Madre Cuixe bottling from Ageo, as well as a tobaziche, a tepextate and a cuixe from 3 other producers, which Dalton will tell us about and will be happy to answer questions on Tuesday.
