Fellow Drammers!
We’re thrilled to welcome the High West Distillery team to Drammers Club on December 16th at 8pm EST / 5pm Pacific. Of course, we’ll be celebrating the arrival of our two Drammers-exclusive barrels, but we’ve also put together an incredible lineup, including:
21yo Very Rare Rocky Mountain Rye. I bought this at the distillery myself nearly a decade ago and have been saving for a special occasion, and I can’t imagine a more appropriate occasion. These are extraordinarily rare, and sell for thousands of dollars on the rare occasion they surface. The recipe is made from 53% rye and it was “Stored for 21 years in reused cooperage”. Note: reused. Batch no. 10, bottle no. 2953. Definitely sourced whiskey (almost certainly MGP), and definitely delicious. 46% abv.
High Country American Single Malt. I picked this up at the distillery in January. It’s made entirely in-house, and uses both new and reused barrels. The bottle simply says aged a minimum of 2 years, but I believe they said it was actually aged for 8 years. I think the plan was they were going to release it in select markets this year but then covid hit, so as far as I know it’s still only available at the distillery. It’s fantastic btw. 44% abv.
Valley Tan Wheat Whiskey. Another distillery exclusive to the best of our knowledge, we also picked this up in January and it’s got an incredible story behind it, specific to Utah. It was apparently created by the mormons, and was the only whiskey allowed in the region for a long time. Mark Twain even wrote about it (“the exclusive Mormon refresher…Valley Tan”). And by tradition it is made of wheat. There’s an insane story about the man pictured on the bottle that we’ll save for the event, but in short he’s Porter Rockwell, one of the “destroying angels” permitted by the Mormon church “to conduct permanent disappearances of obnoxious citizens”. Batch 19G03. 43.5% abv.
Sundance 2018 Edition of Campfire. Every year at Sundance, I check in at the distillery gift shop, and usually there wasn’t much. But one year (2018) I was surprised to find a limited edition sold as the “Official Whiskey of the 2018 Sundance Film Festival”, a special edition of Campfire that was finished in a rye barrel for 9 months, presumably a single barrel release. I’ve never tried it and never heard of it again, been saving it for a special occasion. Hopefully the High West Distillery team can tell us more! Barrel #5211, 51.8% abv.
Drammers-Exclusive Double Rye Finished in a Cognac Cask. Our Drammers casks just arrived two days ago, and we are SO excited. This is the Double Rye single barrel finished for 8 months in a cognac cask, and it is truly magnificent. The name “double rye” comes from the fact that it is a blend of two rye whiskies, a younger rye column distilled (sourced, probably MGP) and an older rye, pot-distilled and distilled by High West themselves. 49.7% abv and available exclusively to our members for $65/bottle with free shipping through 12/25.
Drammers-Exclusive American Prairie Bourbon, Finished in a Rivesaltes Wine Cask. Btw, did we mention that our two Drammers casks are the only two casks coming to the NY market this year? That’s what we were told anyway, and we’re damn proud of it! This one is their famous American Prairie Bourbon, finished for 8 months in a Rivesaltes Wine Cask, and we think you’re gonna love it as much as our rye cask. It’s made from a blend of straight bourbons, and it was named American Prairie to raise awareness of the American Prairie wildlife reserve foundation. 49.9% abv.
A Midwinter Night’s Dram
Yippee Ki-Yay
Bourye
Rendezvous Rye
That’s our lineup. The last few may change, but if they do, trust us they’ll be replaced by something even better. We hope you can join!
