Fellow Drammers!
We kicked off our Drammers Merida chapter last month and we’re excited to keep the momentum going this month on Saturday, December 12th at Casa Alba Cultural Garden, and a huge thank you to our Merida chapter head Isidor for hosting! We’ve got an incredible lineup to celebrate with:
Thompson Bros. Bottling of 20yo Single Malt Scotch Distilled in Sutherland. Hot off the presses! We just got these in hand last weekend, our first club bottling of a very rare scotch. This was bottled by independent bottlers the Thompson Bros., who have started their own distillery up at Dornoch Castle, but this barrel they sourced from another producer, the famous Clynelish distillery (on the bottle it simply says “Distilled in Sutherland”, which many scotch nerds will know means Clynelish. Only 96 bottles made it to the Americas (we sent the other half of the barrel to Europe for our members over there), and since we just got it in a few days ago, only the members of our Los Angeles chapter have had a chance to try this very rare bottle so far. I’m sure all our members will be excited to hear what our friends in Mexico think of it. Bottled at cask strength of 50%, distilled in August 2000, bottled in September 2020.
Michter’s 10yo Bourbon. We’re huge fans of this whiskey, and had the pleasure of hosting an event with their master distiller and master of maturation over the summer. The Michter’s name goes way back, traditionally a rye whiskey made in Pennsylvania, but which sadly stopped producing and was abandoned. The new team resurrected the brand in Kentucky, both making their own bourbon and rye, and (while they were waiting for that to mature) sourcing high end whiskey. These bottles sell out quickly, and it’s rare to see one on the shelf for less than $250, often closer to $300/bottle. It’s great stuff. 47.2% abv.
Paul John Indian Single Malt - 2019 Christmas Ltd. Ed. The folks at Paul John have been turning heads for several years now, and in the last couple years especially have really started to rack up a lot of major awards. We follow every move they make with great interest, and not only because we have a chapter of our club in Mumbai. We’re such big fans, in fact, that we held a joint event a few months ago, where our Mumbai chapter and our American chapters joined together on Zoom with unreleased barrel samples. The Mumbai chapter picked a barrel, and the American chapter picked a barrel, which should be in our hands in a few months. In the meantime, we figured with the holidays so close, it would be fun to pull out this special edition bottle from them, their Christmas Edition 2019 bottle. It’s a single malt in the Scotch style, slightly peated and then finished in the much sought-after Pedro Ximenez sherry barrels (or “PX casks” for whiskey nerds). Non-chill-filtered, 46% Abv.
The Tyrconnel 16yo Irish Whiskey. Next we turn to another finished whiskey, this time an Irish whiskey from The Tyrconnell, a great brand which is distilled at the Cooley Distillery. The Cooley Distillery is seen by many as having jump-started the recent renaissance of Irish whiskey, and it’s easy to see why. This one is aged for 16 years, it is a single malt (so, 100% barley), but it’s double-distilled (unlike more traditional triple distilled Irish whiskeys), and is finished in Oloroso sherry and Moscatel casks. It’ll be fun to compare this to the sherry finished Indian single malt! 46% abv.
Westland - American Single Malt, Drammers-exclusive single cask #430 (medium peated, cask strength).
Barrel Craft Spirits - Kentucky Whiskey Finished in a St. Agrestis Amaro Cask
Rezpiral Agave Distillate - Tobala Con Frutas by Aureliano Hernandez, 46% abv
That’s our lineup, we hope you can join us! Please let us know if you have any questions.
Cheers!
