Aug. 7, 2020: Balcones Distilling with Head Distiller Jared Himstedt + Team

$20.00

Fellow Drammers!

We’re very excited to taste through our first two barrel picks from Balcones that we selected in early March during our live distillery tour and barrel pick event. On Friday, August 7th, we’ll be trying both of them (details below) plus some other really fun stuff:

  • Balcones Bock - this new special edition was made using the exact recipe from Shiner Bock beer, and was only released in Texas last month where it sold out instantly. With the help of several of our members, we were able to secure some bottles, so we’ll be able to try it for this event (be sure to pick up a bottle of Shiner beer to compare!).

  • Lineage - We’re very lucky to be some of the first in the country to try this release that was just announced. It’s a blend of Scottish barley and Texas barley, and a blend of whisky matured using used barrels in the Scottish tradition, and new barrels in the American tradition. Early word on this release is very positive, dying to try it.

  • Drammers Pick #007 - Texas Single Malt matured in ex-apple brandy casks! This barrel blew us away when we did our barrel pick event. Cask #21189, only yielded 126 bottles, and it is unbelievable. Aged at least 41 months, and bottled at cask strength as usual, which in this case comes to 64.5%! Btw, the entire video of us walking around the distillery and pulling barrel samples is up under the Video Library tab here at Drammers.com.

  • Drammers Pick #008 - True Blue Corn Whisky matured in ex-tequila casks! This one is unreal, with a nose of Halloween candy corn and butterscotch bomb on the palate, followed by a sugary rainbow fruit rollup, spearmint, and then on the back end some of that ex-tequila barrel starts to show up with mineral notes and even a wisp of cilantro! The cask looked like it had been through a war (see the video for yourself) and only yielded 114 bottles. Bottled at cask strength of 56.5% abv.

We expect to add a few to this lineup, and those may actually be even more exciting, but we figured this was enough to get the announcement up so people could make plans. Cheers!
