Kansas City Drammers!

Here's our lineup for our Drammers Kansas City lineup on Friday, April 9th starting at 7pm. We've got a really fun lineup that we'll be tasting through, drumroll please...

  • Highland Park, Aged 13 Years Private Single Cask. Highland Park produces some of the most highly-regarded single malt Scotches, and we’re honored to say that they have never before agreed to release a single cask to a whiskey club in the Americas before agreeing to sell this barrel to our club. The distillery was established in 1798, they are located on Orkney, making it the Northernmost, and one of the most remote, of all the Scotch distilleries. They famously use a unique style of "peat" that they use to smoke their whiskies, which contains a distinctive heather note not found in other Scotches. The bottle we'll be drinking is a special private single cask (specifically the whisky was matured entirely in a first fill European oak sherry "butt" -- which is a larger style barrel and the European oak will add dried fruits and spicy notes). 63.9% abv

  • Polish Rye. This is almost impossible to find these days — distilled in Poland, the distillers ended up selling off their stock and moving to Florida, so sadly no more rye is being made in Poland today. This particular bottle was sourced by a distillery in Iowa and released as “Obtainium”.

  • FEW Rye Finished in Malbec. Our club bought 3 barrels from this distillery last year, and this rye finished in Malbec is a real standout. Bottled at cask strength.

  • Amrut Rye. As our rye comparison continues, next we’ll try a rye made in India by our friends at the Amrut distillery in Bangalore.

  • 2 Expressions of Peerless Rye. Peerless has a long history, but was only recently resuscitated as a distillery in Kentucky, where they specialize in rye whiskey (they also make bourbon). We bought 3 barrels of their rye whiskey for our club last year, and we’ll be tasting 2 of them tonight. The first is a barrel of their award winning rye as is. We’ll then compare that with a barrel of their rye that was re-racked in a 2nd new American oak barrel. Why? Just for the simple reason that the first barrel was leaking too much and so it needed to be replaced! Making it a fairly rare example of a “double baked” rye from this distillery. Both bottled at cask strength.

  • Wyoming Whiskey Bourbon. Our club also bought 2 barrels of the excellent Wyoming Whiskey bourbon last year, and we’ll be trying one of those at well, made by the former master distiller of Maker’s Mark.

That's our lineup! And honestly, we’ll have another 10 open bottles on hand if people want to try more, but we don’t want to overwhelm you and list them all here, ha. We hope you can join us!

  • $40/person for Drammers Members

  • $50/person for non-members / Drammers Observers

Cheers,
Charlie
