Stauning Danish Whisky is launching in the United States next month, and as longtime fans we of course wanted to be in the first row to cheer them on as they walk on stage. Stauning launched in 2005 when 9 friends (a doctor, a butcher, a teacher, a helicopter pilot and four engineers) asked themselves why there was no Danish whisky. So, they taught themselves how to make it and have been refining the process ever since (you can see the video of Alex Munch, a co-founder and today their CMO, telling their origin story and more in our Video Library from our mega World Whisky Dan event in May 2020). We are thrilled to welcome Alex back as our guest speaker on April 30th. We’ve been collecting rare old Stauning releases in the secondary market for over a year now in anticipation of this event, so it’s a bit of an understatement when I say we’ve got one hell of a lineup (and that doesn’t even count the bottles we tasted at World Whisky Day last year, or the upcoming Rye Am Legend blind rye showdown at our Indianapolis chapter in a few weeks). All in, we’ve got 10 expressions, which as always is subject to change, though in this case we think that’s very unlikely. Drumroll please….
Rye - New US release (core range)
Kaos - New US release (core range), a blended Danish Whisky
Kaos - blend of distillations from 2011 to 2013, bottled in Feb. 2016 for Europe at 46.5% abv
Web KAos - a special limited release for Denmark, distilled 2013-2014, bottled April 2017 at 49.9% abv
Smoke - Danish Single Malt, New US release (core range)
Curious - Danish Single Malt, Special (current) Europe-only release
The Bastard - Danish Single Malt, Special (current) Europe-only release
Vermouth Cask - Danish Single Malt, Special (current) Europe-only release
Heather - Danish Single Malt, a limited early release, distilled in 2013-2014, bottled in September of 2017 at 49.9% abv
Traditional - Danish Single Malt finished in a Rum Cask, distilled in 2014, bottled Nov. 2017 at 48.2% abv
