Friday 4/24, 5pm: Kings County Distillery Tour and Barrel Pick! $10/person
Our club has long had a close relationship with Kings County Distillery that we've always treasured -- not only do they make great whisky, but their head distiller Colin Spoelman was one of our first guest speakers in NYC and LA (and our murderee at our 2018 Murder Mystery Holiday Party!) and we've been very proud to have so many people from their distillery team be regular, close members of the Club. It is not an accident that the group photo on our website was taken from their distillery when they hosted us during our Brooklyn Distillery Crawl a couple years ago. Watching their whiskey grow and grow and grow to the extraordinary levels they've reached today (their 10 year anniversary is tomorrow!) has been an absolute pleasure. So it very much an understatement and we are very proud to announce that our club will be doing this special barrel pick event with Colin and the team, complete with a live virtual tour of their distillery, and a rare walk-through of their barrel warehouse (not open to the public) with their talented head blender Ryan Ciuchta. And since Kings County is generously donating all the product, our actual costs for the packaging, etc. is only $10/person! You can sign up at Drammers.com as usual.
Regular Samples vs. Tasting Committee Samples - Here's how it will work: everyone who signs up will get a sample set, expected to be 8 expressions including:
a special 5-year very small batch blender's select straight bourbon, distillery exclusive
a barrel-strength single barrel peated bourbon, distillery exclusive
some of their very rare / allocated peated rye
a special overaged bourbon that nobody has ever tried before, just for us
4 year bottled-in-bond bourbon (which just won best-in-category under 5 years at the San Francisco World Spirit Awards
peated bourbon
straight bourbon
the mooshine that started it all, and
a hand sanitizer sample! (Don't Drink It!)
Anyone who signs up can ask to be on the 10-person tasting committee to help decide which barrel(s) we're going to select as Drammers-exclusive bottlings. I will do a lottery on Monday to select who is on the tasting committee, so sign up before then if you want to be in the running for it. The reason we're doing it this way is that we are expecting a big turnout, and we can't very well sample half the barrel! So we'll all go through a tasting of the sample set with their team, joined by the Kings County distillery team. As we do that, our Tasting Committee will taste the barrel pick options, they'll share their thoughts, you'll give your input, and together we'll select a barrel, maybe more than one!
Delivery will be like the last few weeks. If I can get there on a citibike from my apartment, I'm happy to do it for free (I need the exercise, ha!) or you can pick it up.
