Sep. 16: Drammers Minneapolis / St. Paul......

$60.00

Hello Minneapolis and St. Paul Drammers!

You're invited to join us for our next tasting of rare whiskey and other spirits on Wednesday, Sep. 16th at 7pm, and this time we're moving the party to St. Paul!  A big thank you to John Farinola for organizing and to John and Stephanie Chandler for hosting (address:  2275 Riverwood Pl, Saint Paul, 55104).  You can see part of the lineup of what we'll be drinking below, and we'll be adding some surprise bonus pours as well! Here is what you might call a rough draft of what we'll likely include in the lineup, but it might change slightly and we'll be adding at least one more expression:

  • 5 Sentidos - Tobala Mezcal by Tio Pedro.  The Maestro Mezcalero behind this mezcal, Tio Pedro, has worked for many top mezcal producers over the years before setting out on his own, where among other things he produced this small 92 liter batch.  This expression features wild tobalas he collected and distilled in Oaxaca in June of 2022.  He then rested is in glass until December 2022 adjusting with heads and tails to reach the desired flavor and bottled at 47% abv.  This batch was selected by our members on our annual trip to Oaxaca for Day of the Dead last year and is available exclusively to members of the club.

  • Reina Sanchez Madrecuishe Mezcal. We’re incredibly proud to have selected this special mezcal just for the club.  It is a batch of the madrecuish agave, which took over 15 years to grow before they were mature enough to be distilled by the great maestra mezcalera Reina Sanchez, who we have had the honor of visiting at her distillery in Oaxaca.  Madrecuishe is in the Karwinskii family of agaves, which are easy to recognize because, unlike the other agave varietals, they grow in an oblong shape like a tree trunk.  This uncertified mezcal was bottled by Rezpiral, We love working with Rezpiral for many reasons -- first and foremost we think they take seriously our golden rule (don't screw over the producers). They even give back 30% of their after-cost profits to the producers, which is unheard of in this industry.

  • L’Encantada 22yo Armagnac. Single barrel, distilled from Baco at Domaine del Cassou, and aged 22 years in French oak barrels. This was bottled at cask strength and limited to only 460 bottles total. Distilled: 1999. Cask Strength, No Additives, NCF (MSRP: $176/bottle)

  • Strathmill 14yo - Impex Collection. This single malt scotch shows why we need independent bottlers. The distillery is owned by Diageo, but you hardly ever see official single malt bottlings from the distillery, as nearly everything they make goes into the blend Scotch J&B. Aged 14 years. This independent bottling is from our friends at Impex, one of the bigger importers of indie spirits in the US. Cask #802952, Hogshead, 57.5% abv. 1 of 284 bottles.

  • Tumblin’ Dice 13yo Rye. It was years before I realized that the numbers on the dice shown on the bottle told you how old it was. That begged the question what founder Dave Schmier would do if he released a whiskey older than 12 years (there are normally two dice on the label). For years, we’ve been joking with Dave that he would need to do a Dungeons ‘n’ Dragons style 20-sided die. Well, he’s finally done it. 13yo rye whiskey. Barrel proof 50.81% abv.

  • Uruapan Mexican Rum - Charanda Blanco - Cana Criolla Rum. An unaged rum made directly from the sugarcane (not molasses based like most rums available in the US). Uruapan Charanda Caña Criolla Blanco is a protected denomination Mexican single-estate agricole-style rum. Produced by the Pacheco family in Uruapan, Michoacán, it is distilled from 100% estate-grown Criolla sugarcane at 4,180 feet, bottled unaged at 49% ABV, and features vibrant notes of cut grass, green apple, and fresh earth.

  • Empirical - Olive.  Our friends at Empirical (the same company behind the Doritos distillate and various other one-of-a-kind vacuum distilled expressions), has just released a new product, essentially capturing the essence of an olive.  36% abv.

Plus more to come!  As usual, we'll order in light food (likely pizza) that is included in your ticket.  We hope you can join us, please let us know if you have any questions!

Cheers,
Charlie, John and Drammers Club
