You’re invited to join us for a special tasting on Saturday, October 17th starting at Noon Pacific and 3pm EST with Alasdair Day, the co-founder of the Isle of Raasay Distillery (among other things). We last welcomed Alasdair online on January 29, 2023, and a lot has happened since then for us to catch up on. Back then, he was looking towards launching the Machrihanish Distillery in Campbeltown, but with the downturn in the industry generally, our understanding is that project has been pushed back in favor of continuing to build up the Raasay Distillery, which is really starting to come into its own. Founded in 2014 by Alasdair with his business partner Bill Dobbie, they first started distilling in September 2017, so about 9 years ago. They came up with a formula for their flagship whisky that would be a blend of 6 component parts, 3 peated, 3 unpeated, and with a mix of ex-rye, ex-chinkapin and ex-Bordeaux red wine casks. For this tasting, we’ve tracked down rare single casks of each of those components (only a couple hundred bottles of each were released!), along with some of their biggest releases from the last couple years. Twelve (not a typo) expressions in all in this tasting:
Dun Cana, peated and unpeated spirit matured first in the strong foundations of our rye casks with a second maturation in Pedro Ximénez and Oloroso Sherry quarter casks. 1500 bottles released in the US. 52% abv. (details)

While we believe this is the final lineup, it’s always possible it may change (for example if our guest speaker requests a change), but it’s rare and if it does happen, the lineup will likely just get better.
