Fellow Drammers!
Attention all gin lovers! They make whiskey too, but we’re especially excited that this distillery specializes in gin!
You’re invited to join us for an online tasting with Braeden Bumpers, the co-founder and head distiller at the McClintock Distillery in Frederick, Maryland. Founded in 2015, the distillery officially opened to the public in December 2016, where they set out to make bourbon, rye and — especially — gin! Gin finished in Madeira, gin finished in cognac, all sorts of gin. They were also Maryland’s first organic certified distillery. The name of the distillery is apparently drawn from an 1800s inventor based in Frederick, MD named McClintock Young (apparently “stewardship” for Young’s historic cabin passed down to one of the co-founders, which is why they chose the name).
It’s been a minute since we did a gin-centric tasting, and we’re excited to learn more about this distillery and what Braeden and co-founder Tyler Hegamyer have been doing. This tasting will feature 5 expressions:
Forager’s Gin - Their non-cask-matured gin, which they describe as a combination of 21 botanicals inspired by native herbs found in the Appalachian Wilderness. 45% abv
Gardener’s Gin - A Madeira cask-matured gin, which they describe as “perfect for light, warm-weather cocktails”. It has a deep pink color, and notes of hibiscus, lavender, cucumber and lemongrass. 43% abv.
McClintock’s Reserve Gin. Gin aged in cognac casks! A first for American spirits? The team at McClintock thinks so. Notes of citrus, dark fruits and baking spices. 47.7% abv.
Matchstick Bourbon. And yes, they make whiskey too. Their bourbon features a mash bill of yellow king corn, red fife wheat, and Danko Rye. The distillery explains their bourbon is less sweet than traditional bourbon (but still tasty!). 45% abv
Bootjack Rye. They describe their rye whiskey as “a love letter to Maryland Rye Whiskey of the past”. It features 75% Danko Rye in its pre-prohibition mash bill. 45% abv.
That’s our lineup, we hope you can join us! The event will take place over Zoom and we will circulate Zoom login details closer to the event. While we believe this is the final lineup, it’s always possible it may change (for example if our guest speaker requests a change), but it’s rare and if it does happen, the lineup will likely just get better.
