MEZCAL KOCH - DISTILLERY TOUR

Our good friend Txomin Alcorta is the mastermind behind Prieto y Prieta Mexican Whiskey, and his family are the founders and people who make Mezcal Koch. Initially we were going to visit their joint distillery near the airport, but as they are not distilling there at the moment, instead we will visit one of their other distilleries which is making mezcal that day. It is about 1 hour and 20 minutes outside of the city, so we will depart at 9:30am, getting back to Oaxaca City at approximately 4pm. We will see their distillery where they make both artesanal and ancestral styles of mezcal (and if you don’t know what that means, don’t worry, we’ll get into all that on the tour). We will of course taste some of their mezcal, and they are making some food for us - amarillo mole, handmade corn tortillas, rise, frijoles and local ice cream (and of course plenty of mezcal). The cost ended up being a little higher than we’d initially hoped because getting transportation on Nov. 2nd is kind of like trying to hire a bus on Christmas morning in the US. We are enormously grateful to Txomin for arranging this on such an important family holiday for us, and he will bring some of his Prieto y Prieta whiskey for us to try too — and we’re delighted to say that Txomin will be joining us at the wedding also!
