Fellow Drammers!
You’re invited to join us for a special online tasting on Sunday, June 7th at Noon Pacific / 3pm EST in the US and 20:00 in Scotland. We scheduled this event to celebrate the arrival of our first-ever single cask from the Ardnamurchan Distillery! And we are thrilled to welcome back Carl Crafts, their Global Brand Ambassador, to walk us through this epic tasting. Although we tend to think of Ardnamurchan as one of the best of the new crop of young-ish distilleries to emerge in Scotland during the whisky boom, the reality is that they now have whisky that has aged over 10 years! We’ll be tasting that plus loads of their special releases, 10 expressions in call, more specifically:
6yo Sherry Single Cask #359. Nose: Rich and inviting. Notes of dried figs, dark raisins, and Medjool dates. Hints of toffee, orange peel, and Cherry wood; with subtle old leather hints. Palate: Full-bodied and oily, with a burst of dark fruit compote, blackcurrant, and molasses. Layers of dark chocolate, walnut skin, and spices such as cinnamon, nutmeg, and a pinch of white pepper adds complexity. Viscous and mouth-coating. 1 of 306 bottles, 60.3% abv.
Drammers Single Cask 6yo Peated. Hot off the presses! Our 110th single barrel pick is a gem. Cask #1520, Distilled in 2018, Matured in a Peated First Fill Oloroso Sherry Hogshead, 1 of 320 bottles, 58.6% abv.
Mezcal Cask Finish (Peated). 4,968 bottle batch; 900 bottles for the US. 19 Bourbon Barrels re-racked into Mezcal. Peated Spirit, 55% ABV
Sherry Cask. Only 2,000 bottles total came to the US (13,998 bottles globally). Combination of 10 peated sherry butts and 15 unpeated sherry hogsheads. 50% abv.
Madeira Cask. A combination of peated and unpeated spirit first matured in ex-bourbon casks, then re-racked into ex-Madeira wine casks for over two years. 19,598 bottle batch; 1,200 for the US. 43% Peated Spirit, 57% Unpeated Spirit, 52% abv.
The Midgie! This ultra-rare 2025 edition saw only 600 bottles come to the US. 50% Bourbon Barrels, 48% Port Barriques, 2% Sherry Casks, 75% Unpeated Spirit, 25% Peated Spirit, 48% abv.
Ardnamurchan 10yo. Hard to believe it’s already been 10 years. 50% abv. This was a very limited release.
Cask Strength. 12,886 bottles worldwide, 84% Peated Spirit/16% Unpeated Spirit, 90% Bourbon casks/10% Sherry casks, 58.7% ABV
Ardnamurchan AD. Of course, we need to include their flagship bottling to use as a benchmark as we taste through their range of limited and rare releases.
35% Sherry cask/ 65% ex- Bourbon cask, 50/50 Split Peated & Unpeated, Un-chillfiltered, No color added, 46.8% alc.
Maclean’s Nose. This is a fun one, 1 of 25,000 bottles released worldwide. Allegedly it’s named after a rocky outcrop not far from the Ardnamurchan distillery, but it would certainly seem pertinent that the famous whisky expert Charles MacLean, who is also Adelphi’s official “Chief Nose”, would likely have played a key part in the creation of this whisky. Reportedly it was blended with the West Coast style of Scotland in mind — high malt content (70%), and a significant percent of ex-sherry casks. Reportedly it features a mix of malt whisky from Campbeltown and the West Highlands, plus grain whisky from the Lowlands. 46% abv.
That’s our lineup, we hope you can join us! The event will take place over Zoom. Please let us know if you have any questions.
Cheers,
Drammers Club
