Fellow Drammers!
You’re invited to join us for a special online Kilchoman tasting on Saturday, July 25th starting at Noon Pacific / 3pm Eastern in the US and 20:00 in Scotland with Global Brand Ambassador Emma McHarrie. Here at Drammers Club, we’re huge fans of Kilchoman — if you’re not familiar with the distillery, it was the first “new” distillery on Islay in 124 years when it was established in 2005, paving the way for a new crop of young distilleries such as Ardnahoe, Port Ellen, and soon Portintruan, Laggan Bay and possibly more. In a nutshell, they are a farm distillery making great peated single malt Scotch on the island of Islay. They host a big festival each year in May (Feis Ile), where they release arguably their most anticipated bottling of the year — their big annual open day festival bottling, which this year was a 15 year old finished in an ex-Calvados cask, making for one of their oldest Feis bottlings ever. They only released 637 bottles total, and we made sure to be there in line the morning of the release to pick up two bottles, which we’ll be tasting at this event along with 9 other expressions, specifically:
Feis Ile 2026 Release: 15yo Calvados Finish, 50.9% abv, 1 0f 637 bottles, distillery/Feis Ile exclusive
Distillery Exclusive: Shake the Farm 2025 Winner - Carcavelos Wine Cask Finish, Distilled 13 November 2018, Bottled 16 May 2025. Cask #18/1283, 50 PPM, 52.5% abv.
Kilchoman 100% Islay 15th ed. This has long been one of the most heavily anticipated Kilchoman releases each year — and sadly this was the last release in the limited edition 100% Islay range. This edition was distilled from their 2014 and 2015 barley harvests before being matured for a minimum of 9 years in 54 ex-bourbon barrels. The time spent maturing in ex-bourbon barrels has added layers of caramel, vanilla and butterscotch which balance beautifully with the natural citrus sweetness and peat smoke of the Kilchoman spirit. “Fresh vanilla gives way to tropical fruit, toasted oak, and salted butter, with layers of candied citrus fruits, ripe pear, white pepper and waves of peat smoke,” Anthony Wills, Kilchoman Founder.
Loch Gorm 2024 Limited Edition. Loch Gorm is the name given to their annual sherry matured limited edition. The idea is the name comes from Islay’s largest freshwater loch, which neighbours the distillery, and the dark murky colour of the loch’s water is not far off from the dark color of their sherry matured Loch Gorm release. The 2024 edition was distilled in 2014 and matured in 23 oloroso sherry butts previously used by Bodega José y Miguel Martín.
Loch Gorm 2025 - 10yo (Brand New Release). Loch Gorm 2025 Edition was the first ever Loch Gorm aged for over 10 years in Oloroso Sherry butts. Anthony selected 23 Oloroso Sherry butts in total, 20 fresh (first fill) and 3 refill (second fill). “10 years maturation in Sherry casks has added an abundance of rich spices, dark fruit, and barbecue sweetness to the light citrus and peaty character of Kilchoman” ~Anthony Wills, Kilchoman Founder.
Kilchoman Cask Evolution Muscatel Finish. Another single cask bottled exclusively for their US importer, this Impex Cask Evolution 02/25 is a 5 Year Old Muscatel Barrique, which was matured for 5 years in a Moscat barrique. During its maturation, the Moscat cask has added layers of honeysuckle and stoned fruit which balance beautifully with the natural citrus and peat smoke character of Kilchoman single malts. 700mL, 58.4% ABV.
Kilchoman Cask Evolution Casado Finish. Impex Cask Evolution 03/25 9 Year Old Madeira Cask This single cask, distilled from Kilchoman’s 2014 barley harvest was again bottled exclusively for ImpEx Beverages. It was matured for 9 years in a Madeira wine cask. During its maturation, the Madeira cask has added layers of rich fruit and tobacco which balance beautifully with the natural citrus and peat smoke character of Kilchoman single malts. 700mL, 56.5% ABV.
Kilchoman Sanaig Cask Strength. Created from the same recipe as their regular Sanaig release, this was matured predominantly in oloroso sherry casks, and bottled at its natural cask strength of 57.8% abv. The result is an intense combination of rich peat smoke, cinnamon sweetness, and stoned fruits with waves of citrus, mixed spices, and dark chocolate.
Kilchoman Batch Strength. Hard to believe this bottling, was only the 3rd expression in Kilchoman’s core range when it was introduced in 2024. Matured in a combination of re-charred red wine casks, Oloroso Sherry butts and Bourbon barrels, a few drops of water were added post maturation to produce a Batch Strength of 57% abv. The result is a colossal dram combining the natural peat smoke and citrus character of Kilchoman with dark fruits, rich spices and salted caramel sweetness.
Drammers Single Cask Pick STR Finish. Of course, we couldn’t not include our own Drammers single cask pick, technically a 9yo (it’s just about a month short of 10 years), finished for 14 months in an STR cask. Cask #2011/227. 50 PPM / 53.4% abv
