Hello Las Vegas Drammers,
We're gearing up to host our annual week of tastings at Burning Man at the end of the month, and of course we'll jump at any excuse to come to Vegas on the way in! So while I know it's a bit last minute, all the same we're going to host a small Drammers gathering, and of course you're invited! Looks like we may have a couple of our Burning Man campmates flying into town to join in the fun too. :). So, the tasting will be next Wednesday, August 26th at 7pm, and a big thank you to Alex Mylavarapu for hosting us (address: 12452 Iron Peak Ct 89138). We’ve assembled a great lineup, a fun mix of Bourbon, Scotch, Japanese and Irish whiskies, and a major armagnac:
Russell's Reserve 13yo 2026. Hot off the presses, one of the most anticipated bourbon releases of the year. This is the 4th release in this annual series, and each of the last three was ranked by most of the bourbon gate-keepers as one of if not the top bourbon of each year. This one is definitely in the running for best of the bunch. 60.6% abv.
L’Encantada 22yo Armagnac. Single barrel, distilled from Baco at Domaine del Cassou, and aged 22 years in French oak barrels. This was bottled at cask strength and limited to only 460 bottles total. Distilled: 1999. Cask Strength, No Additives, NCF (MSRP: $176/bottle)
Strathmill 14yo - Impex Collection. This is one of those distilleries that proves the point of why you need independent bottlers. The distillery is owned by Diageo, but you hardly ever see official single malt bottlings from the distillery, as nearly everything they make goes into the blend Scotch J&B. Aged 14 years. This independent bottling is from our friends at Impex, one of the bigger importers of indie spirits in the US. Cask #802952, Hogshead, 57.5% abv. 1 of 284 bottles.
Tumblin’ Dice 13yo Rye. It was years before I realized that the numbers on the dice shown on the bottle told you how old it was. That begged the question what founder Dave Schmier would do if he released a whiskey older than 12 years (there are normally two dice on the label). For years, we’ve been joking with Dave that he would need to do a Dungeons ‘n’ Dragons style 20-sided die. Well, he’s finally done it. 13yo rye whiskey. Barrel proof 50.81% abv.
That Boutique-y Whisky Co. - 15yo Irish Single Malt, Batch 5. One of the more exciting independent bottlers out there, but sadly it left the US market pre-covid. Interestingly the issue was mostly bottle size -- in the rest of the world, they release in predominantly 500ml bottles, a size that until recently was not permitted in the US. Now that the US has just approved this as a bottle size, will they return? We’ll see. This is a 15yo Irish single malt from an undisclosed distillery, likely from Cooley or Bushmills. 46% abv.
Booker's 2026-01 ("Big Easy Batch"). Released in March, this was aged for 7 years, 2 months and 15 days. 77% corn, 13% rye and 10% malted barley. Reportedly a combination of barrels pulled from 5 different production dates/warehouses. We got a crazy deal on it we’ll tell you about more at the event. 64.55% abv.
Stauning Danish Rye - Australian Rum Finish. This is a brand new single barrel from our friends at the Stauning Distillery, so new in fact that as I write this nobody in the club (myself included!) has tried it yet — you’ll be the first! 57% abv.
Uruapan Mexican Rum - Charanda Blanco - Cana Criolla Rum. An unaged rum made directly from the sugarcane (not molasses based like most rums available in the US). Uruapan Charanda Caña Criolla Blanco is a protected denomination Mexican single-estate agricole-style rum. Produced by the Pacheco family in Uruapan, Michoacán, it is distilled from 100% estate-grown Criolla sugarcane at 4,180 feet, bottled unaged at 49% ABV, and features vibrant notes of cut grass, green apple, and fresh earth.
That’s our lineup, we hope you can join us! We’ll order in light food which is included in your ticket (likely pizza) and as always we ask that everyone arrange a ride home — after all, we’ll be drinking a bunch of high proof stuff.
Cheers,
Charlie, Bob and Drammers Club
