Oct. 30: Drammers Oaxaca...
Hello Oaxaca Drammers!
We’re delighted to invite you to a whisky tasting today, October 30th at 6pm!
We’re excited to be back in town and to be able to spend time with you all this weekend during the festivities. We know everyone is very busy, and this has come together last minute, but we wanted to bring some fun whiskies down for you to try. For our members in Oaxaca, it’s free to attend (as a small thank you for all the hospitality this weekend!), for our members visiting from the USA, it’s $25/person. Asis has offered to host at his new restaurant Comere (5 de Mayo 411-interior B, near the corner of Calle de Gurrion). Here’s what we’ll be drinking:
Glenmorangie Lighthouse Bottling - This special Single Malt Scotch was released earlier this year at the Glenmorangie Distillery in honor of the opening of their new experimental craft distillery — only 4,782 bottles were ever released and it sold out quickly, but luckily we made the trip up and were able to secure a couple bottles. It features a blend of bourbon and sherry casks. 48% abv.
The Dalmore - Regalis. Next we have another single malt Scotch, this time an old travel-retail-only bottling that we believe they stopped selling in the 80s or early 90s. We picked the bottle up at auction. Here it sees The Dalmore finished in first fill Amoroso sherry casks. 40% abv.
M&H Israeli Single Malt - Drammers Cask. Next up we have a Drammers barrel pick from Israel’s M&H Distillery. It’s made like a scotch and then finished in a fortified red wine barrel (they made the fortified red wine themselves so that it would qualify as kosher). A whopping 64.7% abv.
The Senator - Straight Rye Whiskey. Next is a barrel proof offering from our friend Dave Schmier, founder of Proof & Wood, The Senator and (in a former life) Redemption rye. This is sourced from the great MGP distillery in Indiana, aged 6 years and bottled at 56.05% abv, bottled in the Summer of 2019. These Senator barrel proof offerings have been winning a lot of awards lately.
FEW Bourbon finished in Scotch Barrels. Next up is an cask exclusive to Drammers Club, produced at the FEW distillery in Chicago. It’s a bottle of their bourbon that was finished in a cask that used to hold an unpeated Scotch, making for an unusual blend of bourbon and scotch flavors. You don’t see that combination very often, but here it works beautifully. 58.8% abv.
New England Barrel Co. - Stouted Bourbon Finish. Next is a bourbon sourced from the Green River Distillery in Western Kentucky (which was recently acquired by Bardstown Bourbon Co.) and finished in a stout beer from the Lord Hobo brewing company in Boston and released by our friends at New England Barrel Co. in New Hampshire. 56.9% abv.
Paul John Peated Indian Single Malt. Next we’ll switch to peated whiskies. First we have an Indian single malt, made in Goa and aged in their famous underground warehouse. It’s medium peated, and one of only 144 bottles (it’s a Drammers-exclusive single barrel). 56.5% abv.
Ardbeg - Uigeadail. Next we’ve got a heavily peated single malt scotch from the great Ardbeg distillery. This is part of their core range and bottled at 54.2% abv.
That’s our lineup, we hope you can join us!
Cheers,
Charlie
