NYC Drammers!
Our next in person event in NYC will be Thursday, October 21st at 7pm, and we’ve got a fun blind tasting event lined up courtesy of our friends at Westland, and our longtime friend and fellow Drammer (and now the Westland brand ambassador) Devin Vilardi will be joining us. Their idea is to try to as much as possible recreate on the whiskey side what happened in the wine world with the famous “Judgement of Paris”. Here’s their recap of that if you’re not familiar:
Our goal is similar to that of The Judgement of Paris—a blind tasting hosted by British wine merchant Steven Spurrier in 1976 that pit American Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon against some of the most famed Bordeaux Chateaux—by demonstrating again that new world can indeed stand tall with old world.
Apparently they have arranged with a handful of other distilleries (four single malts, from “four distinct regions” of the world. We’ll taste them blind, score them, and then compare results — and apparently they worked with Dave Brook and Sam “Dr. Whisky” Simmons to pick the whiskeys and design the scoring system. Cool concept — not many brands have the confidence to do a series of blind tastings where their product might actually lose, right? Of course, we never miss a chance to show off our two single barrels of Westland — the very last two they agreed to sell before shutting down their single barrel program for 5 years in 2019! And knowing us, there will probably the another pour or two in the mix. :)
