We’re excited to welcome you to a special tasting on Thursday, October 13th in person in NYC with the Master Blender for Elixir Distilling, Oliver Chilton. A couple months ago we had the pleasure of welcoming their global brand ambassador Chanel Liquori for a tasting focusing on their whisky as well as Black Tot Rum, but for this event, we’re only focusing on the whisky and a whole new range of bottles. In fact, they’re releasing a new range, what they’re calling their “Reserve Casks” of Single Malts of Scotland, which you might compare to say the Cadenheads Creations series. There isn’t a lot of information about these out there, and we have yet to try these ourselves, but from what little we can find online, it sounds like these will be a series of blends of a few casks (like 4 to 6) often from the same distillery, overseen by their Master Blender (and our guest speaker) Ollie Chilton, who of course has an incredible record blending (he oversees their entire portfolio, including their Single Malts of Scotland line, Elements of Islay, Port Askaig and more).
Ollie will be bringing at least 6 bottles in this new Single Malts of Scotland Reserve Cask range, all bottled at 46% abv, and we’ll have to see what he brings, but it will likely include Clynelish, Laphroaig, maybe a Linkwood. We’ll also try some new releases in the Elements of Islay series, which will also be a bit of a departure for that line in that it will feature blended malts as we understand it (one that’s ex-bourbon and one that’s ex-sherry). As for the club, it looks like we’ve successfully tracked down a 19yo Ardbeg Single Malts of Scotland bottling, and we’re working on one other bottle, possibly an 11yo Ardmore or something like that. If you add that up, of course, that’s 10+ expressions we’re looking at, as usual, ha. And of course, Ollie is the Master Blender of the company, you never know what he might show up with…
