Hello Austin Drammers!

You’re invited to join for an informal event on August 10th at 7pm. A big thank you to John Orton for hosting (501 West End Avenue, 78701).

This is a new style of event we’re experimenting with — think of it as a kind of elevated bottle share event — everyone brings a bottle to share like a normal bottle share event, but we’re also sending a couple of our latest Drammers single barrels for you to try, and we’ll order in food as usual, which is included in your ticket. If everyone has a good time, the idea is to create a regular new series of more informal events so you can hang out with your fellow Drammers more often in between our more structured events with brands, or when Charlie is in town, etc.

So, what will we all be drinking? Well mostly whatever bottles everyone brings to the event, but also our two latest Drammers Club single barrel picks:

  • Westward American Single Malt. Our Portland members selected this single barrel, which is appropriate seeing as Westward is easily the biggest distillery in Portland, at least for our purposes. We met twice with their Master Distiller Miles Munroe — first a subset of us met with him to try a broader array of truly wild experimental single casks, then a larger group of us met to make our final selection. We tried experimental releases unlike anything I’ve seen from the distillery, but Miles also brought along a single cask that wasn’t experimental at all — no finishes, no nothing. It was just an exceptionally good single cask version of their flagship. Although we went in determined to pick one of the most experimental Westward casks ever released, we couldn’t get over how much we liked the regular single cask, so we ended up going with that instead. It’s got the BIG malty / fruity notes you come to expect from a Westward release, and it is just so RICH. 64.93% abv and available exclusively to Members and Observers of Drammers Club ($111.99/bottle for Members / $124.99 for Observers).

  • Loch Lomond Glengarry - Sauternes Cask Matured. This is our 2nd pick from this wonderful Highland distillery, matured for 10 years in an ex-Sauternes cask, making it extra-bright and sweet.  This one is yummy and a big contrast to our first pick (the 12yo matured in a first-fill Bordeaux cask, which scored a whopping 96 points at the San Francisco Spirits Awards earlier this year).  Both are available now through our retail partner www.DRINQY.com. This 2nd pick is $99.99/bottle for Members, or $109.99 for Observers.

Cheers,
Charlie, Dan and Drammers Club
