Hello Vegas Drammers!
On May 14th (6:30pm at Oak & Ivy), we're hosting a tasting with Britney Chen, Brand Ambassador for Taiwan's prestigious Kavalan distillery. It'll be catered by District One, and it's free to attend for both Drammers Members and Drammers Observers, but you do need to RSVP (Members - be sure to sign up through the Members link, as you will get a take-home bonus).
Kavalan is a great distillery. It was built in 2005, and was one of the first "world whiskies" to really turn heads. Check at auction and you'll see that their limited edition bottles go for $600/bottle plus, so its understatement to say they're very sought after -- we posted the flyer for this event on the Drammers site while we were writing this email, and before we could even finish typing this up we've already gotten two "Hey, I see Kavalan is coming to the Vegas chapter, can you bring them to our city?" messages, ha. Not surprised, this is a distillery that gets a lot of love, and I'm pretty sure the only time we've only hosted an event with them was an online event with our members in Boston during covid. All eyes on Vegas! :)
We'll be tasting through at least 4 expressions of their Taiwanese single malt, which you can read about below (and hey, you never know, there might be more…). Our fearless leader in Las Vegas, the one and only Bob Brown, will be running point on this one, and I'm very jealous to have to miss it (though don't feel too bad for me, I'll be on a plane heading to Scotland that night, ha).

BOTTLE LINEUP:
Kavalan Triple Sherry Cask. This is BRAND NEW. Kavalan Triple Sherry Cask Single Malt Whisky is a rare combination of three exquisite sherry-aged casks — Oloroso, Pedro Ximénez, and Moscatel — with the dried fruits of Oloroso as its main character. Rich caramel and the sweetness of maltose are layered with the distillery's unique tropical fruits to create a delicate but distinct sherried whisky that can be enjoyed on easy-drinking occasions with friends.
Kavalan Oloroso Sherry Oak. More sherry cask! Why? Because this is what we love about Kavalan -- their sherry bomb single malts are one of the reason people go so crazy for their whisky. Clean and complex with multiple layers of dried fruit, nuttiness and spices, it has some marzipan and vanilla touches to it. ABV : 46%
Kavalan ex-Bourbon Oak. Although their sherry-cask whiskies tend to steal a lot of the spotlight, their ex-bourbon cask whiskies are great too, so of course we'll be trying this, the Kavalan ex-Bourbon Oak. It has a clean and fresh tropical fruitiness with lingering vanilla, coconut and spices. ABV : 46%
Kavalan Distillery Select No. 1. Kavalan’s Distillery Select series showcases the fine art of blending and the exquisite cask selection of Taiwan’s premier distillery. Expression No.1 in this series exquisitely brings out the aroma of tropical fruits unique to Kavalan, creating a soft and thick multi-layered taste. Its aroma is long-lasting, lingering with creamy toffee, woodiness, and vanilla notes. A long finish with notes of sweetness. ABV : 40%
