May 12: Drammers Houston......
Hello Houston Drammers!
We're excited to announce the launch of the Houston chapter of Drammers Club, making it our 46th city around the world where we host regular tastings of rare whiskey and spirits. Our first event will be Friday, May 12th at 7pm. A big thank you to Kerim for hosting (his address is 2334 Gentryside Drive, Houston 77077). We'll be tasting through 8 expressions: 5 whiskies, 2 mezcals and a very unusual brandy.
REGISTER HERE: Members ($40) / Observers & Non-Members ($50)
Cheers!

What We’ll Be Drinking at the Event:
Highland Park Cask Strength 13yo. Highland Park is Scotland's Northernmost distillery, located on the island of Orkney, and is known for a distinct "heather" note in the local peat they use to peat their barley. This particular single barrel offering, a Drammers pick, was not finished in a sherry cask, rather it was aged all 13 years in a sherry butt. Distilled in 2006, bottled in 2019 at a whopping 63.9% abv.
Loch Lomond's Glengarry 12yo. One of our newest Drammers picks (single barrels) just arrived, a 12yo single malt Scotch from the Highlands distillery Loch Lomond. Distilled in 2010, bottled in 2023, unpeated, matured in a 1st fill Bordeaux red wine barrel -- the barrel yielded 281 bottles. 55.0% abv. Of course non-chill filtered and no color added. Cask #21/546-6. Exclusively available to Drammers members.
2 New Riff Single Barrels - One Bourbon, One Rye, Both Cask Strength. The story of how New Riff distillery grew out of the success of the Party Source liquor shop is extraordinary, and we'll get into that at the tasting, where we'll try a single barrel expression of each of their bourbon and their rye, both were released exclusively at the Premier Drams whiskey festival in Washington DC last year at Jack Rose Saloon, which we were proud to attend. 53.05% abv
Wilderness Trail - Single Barrel Rye. This is another fun single barrel released by our friends at Jack Rose during their Premier Drams festival last summer, this time featuring the Wilderness Trail distillery, which was recently acquired for a rumored 400 million dollars by Campari group (which owns Wilderness Trail).
Version Francaise - Eddu 2011. Have you heard of the Eddu distillery? Neither had we until our friends at La Maison du Whisky started releasing their Version Francaise line of new French whiskies, many from distilleries we'd never heard of before. This bottling of was only released at the LMDW shops in Paris, where we were fortunate enough to pick one up. Made in the Brittany region. We recently hosted an online discussion with the LMDW team about their recent very limited number of their first releases here in the United States, which you can see here if you'd like to learn more about them.
Rezpiral - Simeon Ramirez Mezcal Ensamble of Mexicano Agaves. We had the pleasure of selecting a batch a few years ago that Simeon did with his father Apolonio, that time from a tobasiche agave, which was dominated by vegetal and mineral notes. That pick was a big hit, so we selected a new batch that just arrived -- a mix of 4 varietals of the Mexicano agave, it has a dominant lemon-lime custardy-sorbet flavor, backfilled with vanilla. Yum. Details here, and available exclusively to members of Drammers for $120/bottle, 50.8% abv.
5 Sentidos - Tobala Mezcal by Tio Pedro. The Maestro Mezcalero behind this mezcal, Tio Pedro, has worked for many top mezcal producers over the years and recently set out on his own, where among other things he produced this small 92 liter batch. This is only just arrived (which is why it's not pictured above) and features wild tobalas he collected and distilled in Oaxaca in June of 2022. He then rested is in glass until December 2022 adjusting with heads and tails to reach the desired flavor and bottled at 47% abv. This batch was selected by our members on our annual trip to Oaxaca for Day of the Dead last year and is available exclusively to members of the club.
