Hello OC Drammers!

Our next tasting of rare whiskey, mezcal and other spirits is coming up this Saturday, May 11th, a daytime event starting at 1pm. A big thank you to Keith for hosting us again (his address is 133 11th street, Seal beach ca 90740). We’ll have a fun mix of mezcal, bourbon, scotch and more:

  • Rezpiral Mezcal - Capon Espadin by Abel Martinez. A couple years ago, the NY Times did a review of hundreds of different types of Espadin (which is the most common type of mezcal other than tequila), and Abel’s batch was named #1. When we saw that, we jumped into action and got his very next batch for the club!

  • Rezpiral Mezcal - Berta Vasquez, 100% Tepextate. Tepextate is one of the rarest agave types for the simple reason that it takes so long to grow. All the plants that went into this batch took between 22 and 24 years to grow before they had enough sugar to convert into alcohol/mezcal. But of course, 22+ years ago, nobody knew that mezcal would be all the rage globally, so nobody was planting it. As a result, you don’t see 100% tepextate batches very often. And this one here is made by the Queen herself, Berta Vasquez, one of a very small handful of living legends in the Oaxacan mezcal scene.

  • Single Cask Nation - 11yo Inchgower single malt scotch, finished for 26 months in a sherry hogshead,

  • Duncan Taylor Octave - Aultmore Single Malt Scotch, distilled in 2008, botted in 2022, aged 13 years. 1 of 72 bottles, 52.1% abv.

  • Duncan Taylor Octave - Royal Brackla Single Malt Scotch, distilled in 2011, bottled in 2018, aged 7 years. 52.4% abv.

  • Spirits of French Lick - 4yo Bourbon “The Maddie Gladden” - a distillery located in Indianapolis (not MGP, it’s their own distillery)

  • The much-talked-about Empirical x Doritos bottle - vacuum distilled, using a base malt that is fermented with Kogi, and then an entire bag of nacho cheese Doritos was macerated into each bottle! Needs to be tasted to be believed.

  • R6 Distillery. We’ll also bring along a fun whiskey distilled in Segundo in Los Angeles, appropriate seeing as the night before this event, we’ll be selecting a barrel at their distillery!

We hope you can join us! We’ll order in some light food (included, likely pizza) to try to make sure nobody is drinking on an empty stomach, and as always we strongly encourage everyone to arrange a ride home. Please let us know if you have any questions!

Cheers,
Charlie, Keith and Drammers Club
