Mar. 22: Dry Fly Whiskey with Distiller Patrick Donovan...

We’re gearing up for a deep dive with Dry Fly Distilling on March 22nd. This will be an online tasting starting at 5pm Pacific / 8pm Eastern, and we’re delighted to welcome as our guest speaker Patrick Donovan, their distiller, who will be joining us live from the distillery in Washington State. The distillery is appropriately named btw — it was founded when two friends were fishing knee deep in a river in Washington State and came up with the idea! If formally launched in 2007, and has emerged as a leader in wheat whiskies, leaning heavily into things like triticale (a wheat/rye hybrid grain developed in Scotland in the 1800s). They feature long fermentations (7 days on average), they use Christian Carl stills, and age their spirit these days in 53 gallon barrels from Independent Stave. Their core range features whiskies aged three years in the barrel, though obviously with 14+ years under their belts, they have older stuff they’re mixing in. We’ll be tasting through 5 of their whiskies and one gin, specifically:

• Straight Wheat Whiskey, Aged 3 Years. 45% abv

• Straight Wheat Whiskey, Aged 3 Years, Cask Strength. 60% abv

• Straight Wheat Whiskey, Aged 3 Years, Port Barrel Finish, 45% abv

• Straight Bourbon 101, Aged 3 Years, 50.5% abv

• Straight Triticale Whiskey, Aged 3 Years, 45% abv

• Barrel Reserve Gin, 40% abv
