Jun. 30: Glen Scotia Online Tasting with Distillery Manager Iain McAlister...

On Sunday, June 30th, starting at Noon Pacific / 3pm Eastern / 8pm in Scotland, Glen Scotia’s Distillery Manager Iain McAlister will join us for a special online tasting. We set up this event while we were at the Campbeltown Malts Festival May 21-24, where we were able to acquire many distillery-exclusive bottles, including a very rare and special 33yo release (only 18 bottles released, for over approx. $1,700/bottle). We were able to get the last one. Although Glen Scotia releases a commercial 2024 festival bottling that is available in stores, they also release a distillery only festival single cask, and they host a kickoff festival dinner, where each person who joins the dinner gets a single cask only available to attendees. We picked up all those bottles. At the festival, Iain also hosts a direct-from-the-casks dunnage warehouse tasting, and he has told us he will try to bottle those for us to bring back for this tasting — we’ll confirm the details once we have them in hand next week after the festivities on Islay, but needless to say, these you will never see again (he selected a series of different mostly younger ex-bourbon casks to reflect on the differences that an ex-Jim Beam cask may have from say an ex-Heaven Hill cask etc.). So the exact lineup is a moving target, and (as always) until we get off the plane back in the US, anything might happen along the way. But here is our best guess at the lineup as it stands now:
33yo, Distilled 1989, Refill American Oak cask #316, 1 of 18 bottles, 47.2% abv (Distillery Exclusive). As you can imagine, most of our budget for this event went to this release.
2024 Festival Distillery Release (1 of 220 bottles), First fill ruby port hogshead, aged 7 years, cask #23/777-1. 57.2% abv (Distillery - Campbeltown 2024 Fest Exclusive)
2024 - Festival Dinner Bottling (1 of 226 bottles) 1st Fill Bourbon Barrels, 5yo, Cask #3610, 58.6% abv (exclusively available to attendees of the 2024 Campbeltown Malts Fest kickoff dinner)

All 3 Drammers-Exclusive Single Barrels — we will of course proudly feature our club picks, the most of anyone in the United States to our knowledge. (7yo unpeated ex-bourbon cask, 10yo peated ex-bourbon cask, 6yo 1st fill Oloroso cask).
