We’re excited to announce this special online tasting with Arran’s Global Brand Ambassador and Brand Manager Mariella Romano on Saturday, June 17th. It will be an approximately 90 minute discussion and tasting starting at 11:30am Pacific / 2:30pm EST in the US, and 19:30 in Scotland / 20:30 in much of Europe. This is another one of those events we’ve been working on for years (looking back through our emails, we started working on it in May of 2020!). During that time, we’ve collected some of the most sought-after dusty bottles released by Arran — specifically their “Smugglers Series” of releases from 2015-2017, which marked the 20 year anniversary of the distillery, which was built in 1995. The Isle of Arran has a rich history of distilling, reportedly hosting around 50 (mostly illicit) distilleries at its peak. The new Arran distillery (technically the Lochranza Distillery) was the first legal distillery on the Island of Arran since the old Lagg distillery closed in 1837, though the same team built a new Lagg distillery that began operating in 2019. Our guest, Mariella Romano has been with Arran/Lochranza distillery as their global brand ambassador for nearly 5 years, and we’re thrilled to welcome her as our guest speaker. We’ll have a hefty lineup to taste through with her, including:

  • Arran 25yo Single Malt Scotch. Only 3,000 bottles were released globally for this bottling, which is obviously an exciting milestone, especially considering the distillery was only built in 1995! We believe this will be the 2022 release, featuring a mixture of ex-bourbon casks and ex-sherry casks. 46% abv.

  • Arran - Smugglers Series, Vol. Released in 2015, this very limited release was the first in a trilogy of book bound releases under the Illicit stills name from Arran. This single malt scotch features maturation in a mix of port pipes, sherry hogsheads and ex bourbon casks using lightly peated, heavily peated and unpeated malt. Only 8,700 bottles were produced. 56.4% abv.

  • Arran - Smugglers Series, Vol. 2. Released in 2016, this second release in the Smugglers series features Arran’s single malt aged in a rum cask. 55.4% abv.

  • Arran - “The Westies Bottle”. This bottling from 2010 was the third in the Icons of Arran series and depicts Ruaraidh, Arran's beloved westie.

    Distilled in 1998, matured in 22 ex-sherry hogsheads and bottled in 2010, only 6,000 were released. 46% abv.

  • Arran Sauternes Cask Finish. This bottling features Arran’s Single Malt that is first matured in oak casks for eight years and is then finished in a selection of Sauternes wine casks. These Bordeaux sweet white wine casks were specifically selected by Arran's Master Distiller to pair well with Arran’s spirit character. 50% abv. 

  • Arran 10yo Single Malt. Arran’s flagship is impressive, aged 10 years in (we’re presuming) ex-bourbon casks and bottled at 46% abv. Look for lots of fruit (pear, apple, even some orange), vanilla, definitely honey and malt notes. This is one yummy whisky.
