Hello San Francisco Drammers!

We’re excited to welcome you to a special tasting of Bunnahabhain Islay Single Malt Scotch. Our guest speaker will be their lead person in the United States — Kyle McHugh, technically their “US Advocacy Lead” and one of the most respected and sought-after guest speakers in the industry. Kyle is flying in literally just for us, doing the event, and turning around and flying back out the same day — we are so excited and grateful for this opportunity! You’re going to love him, he’s incredibly knowledgeable, and a great speaker.

If you’re not familiar with Bunnahabhain, it is one of the legendary old distilleries founded on 1881 on Islay — an island in the Southwest of Scotland that is mostly famous for its peated single malts. Bunnahabhain makes some whisky like that, but is mostly celebrated for going the other way — unpeated (Not smokey) single malt Scotch, that instead features rich fruit and citrus notes. Our club organizes an annual group trip to Islay each May for their big festival at the distillery (“Feis Ile”), and we’ve had the pleasure of welcoming their Master Blender Julie-Anne and other members of their team for both in person and online events over the years. This event will offer a deep dive into this incredible distillery. The lineup will include:

  • Bunnahabhain Stiuireadair. We’ll start with their flagship, a fruity, unpeated expression that is primarily aged in ex-sherry casks. They don’t disclose the age statement on this one, but they’re definitely something very right with this expression. It’s delicious, especially for the price (available to buy here through our retail partner DRINQY.com ($43.99/bottle).

  • Bunnahabhain - 12 Year Single Malt Scotch. Stepping things up a bit, we’ll turn to an iconic Bunna offering through the ages — it was first launched in 1979! Double Matured in ex-Bourbon and ex-Sherry Casks. 46.3% abv (available here for $67.99).

  • Bunnahabhain - Cask Strength 12 Year Single Malt Scotch. Next we’ll try the same 12 year whiskey, but now at cask strength. Pretty sure we’ll be tasting the 2023 edition, which clocked in at 60.1% abv.

  • Bunnahabhain - 18 Year Single Malt Scotch. This distillery really starts to evolve at older age statements, it will be fun to contrast the 12 to the much more limited releases aged 18 and 25 years old.

  • Bunnahabhain - 25 Year Single Malt Scotch.

  • Bunna Toiteach a Dha. This is actually a peated version of their whisky, using a combination of ex-bourbon and ex-sherry casks. Available through our retail partner here.

  • Surprise 7th Bonus Pour!

That’s our lineup, we hope you can join us! We’ll order in light food (likely pizza, included). Please let us know if you have any questions.

ADDRESS: 133 Kearny st, 4th floor (middleware office). I big thank you to Ram and the team at Middleware for hosting us again!

Cheers,
Drammers Club
