Fellow Drammers!
We’re excited to welcome you to a special event with our friends at Elixir Distilling. We’d actually had an event on the books for April 1st, 2020 with Elixir, but something happened that forced us to cancel that (we suspect you know what, ha). But in some ways it’s even more exciting that the event was postponed — since then they’ve announced they’ll be opening a new distillery on Islay called Portintruan (pronounced Port-nah-truan)! Led by co-owner Sukhinder Singh (the legendary whisky collector who build and recently sold The Whiskey Exchange), they promise their new distillery will feature a number of old-school production techniques, including using “predominantly” their own floor maltings — an enormous undertaking — along with direct fire stills. They also, in a jaw-dropping development, recruited Georgie Crawford as their distillery manager (a longtime Diageo veteran, she was formerly the distillery manager at Lagavulin and most recently was the manager implementing the revival of Port Ellen as a distillery for Diageo.
All of which is to say, this is a really exciting company to follow, and for our event with them on June 14th, we’re delighted to announce that we’ll be welcoming as our guest speakers both Chanel Liquori, their International Sales Manager, and Mitch Wilson, their Global Brand Ambassador. They both come with a ton of experience in the industry, and we actually last welcomed Chanel in person at our Los Angeles chapter, back when she was representing That Boutique-y Whisky Company, and we’re thrilled to welcome her back now in her role with Elixir!
If you’re not familiar with Elixir Distilling, they’ve got a lot on their plates even in addition to the Islay distillery they’re building. Their brands Include a number of independent bottling lines (the Elements of Islay series, Single Malts of Scotland, Port Askaig single malt scotches), plus their famous Black Tot Rum.
We’re finalizing the lineup, but here’s what the lineup will likely include:
