Fellow Drammers!

We love Indian single malt here at Drammers — and of course we bought 3 barrels of Indian whisky last year, one from our friends at Amrut and two from our friends at Paul John, one of which (the peated underground warehouse bottling) recently arrived. So when, our Mumbai chapter recently hosted an event with a brand new Indian single malt — Kamet — we jumped at the chance to do an online tasting and discussion, which we’re honored to say will be the first one they’re doing in the US! And as icing on the cake, we’re thrilled to welcome back Yash Bhamre, a longtime friend of the club, and formerly the national brand ambassador for Paul John whisky in India. In addition to our recent Mumbai meeting, we last welcomed Yash as a guest speaker during our Paul John barrel pick event a little over a year ago when he was in his prior role, and he’ll again be joining us live from India, where our event will be starting at 6:30am his time (so please note the start time will be 6pm Pacific / 9pm Eastern, an hour later than we often do).

Kamet only has the one expression available at the moment, so instead of the usual 0.66 ounce, everyone will get 2 full ounces of it, along with 2 ounces of each of their expressions of JIN JIJI (their regular — the first in the world to include cashew — and also their Darjeeling expression). As for Kamet, it was only just launched in India last year, and only in Goa and Gurgaon. It has only just started to come to the US (I believe only a few weeks ago, but don’t hold me to that). The operation started in India in 2012, when they had two “Scottish style” whisky pot stills installed. There are two wash stills (25000 litres each) and two spirit stills (15000 litres each). The wash still resembles a lamp glass while the spirit still has a boil ball in the cone area to increase the reflux, resulting in a light, floral & fruity spirit. For barrels, they turned to a small cooperage managed by 3 coopers from Bareilly (a town known for its coopers).

Jin JiJi, btw, hasn’t even been released in India yet, only in the US.

In any case, we hope you can join us!
