Feb. 3: Drammers Chicago with Mr. Paul of Paul John Whisky in person at Warehouse Liquors!........

Mr. Paul John is back in the United States, and we're throwing a party for him on February 3rd at Warehouse Liquors in Chicago at 6pm! And of course everyone in Drammers Club is invited to join, either online or in person for those in Chicago (or who want to visit)!!! The online portion will start at 3:30pm Pacific / 6:30pm Eastern, and we’ll meet at Delilah’s for the after-party.

We last had the privilege of welcoming Mr. Paul in person at our NYC chapter back in December of 2019, and had plans to do a group trip to the distillery in goa in 2020 with our Mumbai chapter, but of course, covid. So we pivoted, with a series of online events, culminating in two Drammers-exclusive barrel picks, one by our US chapters, one by our Mumbai chapter, and a joint online event with a live tour of the distillery culminating in an interview with their master distiller Michael D’Souza!

But we’ve been counting the seconds until we could get the party going in person again, and we’re excited to welcome Mr. Paul in person in Chicago. As part of the event, we'll be tasting 7 expressions of Paul John, including of course our own Drammers-exclusive single barrel pick, aged in their underground warehouse in 2nd-fill barrels (which is unusual -- they mostly use first-fill). We'll also try their famous Mithuna bottling, which was rated across-the-board as one of the top whiskies of last year in any category, their most recent 2021 Christmas edition, two long-since-sold out SMWS bottlings, and a couple more from their core range (Edited, PX Finish). Some background on Mr. Paul:

Mr. Paul was born in Kerala, and made his start in the liquor business in 1992 in Bengaluru. Btw, before starting our chapter in Mumbai, we made a point to travel to Bengaluru to meet with the Paul John team and ask for their blessing since we knew we’d want to make them a key part of our Mumbai chapter, and we were honored to host their brand ambassadors for multiple events over the years. In any case, back to Mr. Paul — he created John Distilleries flagship brand “Original Choice”, which today sells over 10 million cases a year and is one of the top 6 best selling whisky brands in India. He also launched many other successful products over the years, including brandy and wine, but ultimately set his sites on what he really wanted to make in 2012 — an Indian single malt. He chose to build his single malt distillery in Goa both because he loved vacationing there and because its climate made for an especially exciting place to age whisky. From what I’ve read, in anticipation of launching his single malt, he made many trips to Scotland and ultimately identified some of the more fruit-forward scotches as his preferred flavor profile (think Glenmo), which ultimately led him to commission copper pot stills with particularly long necks to help accentuate the fruitier notes in his Paul John single malt spirits.
