Jan. 25: Burns Night Celebration with David Blackmore, Global Brand Ambassador for Glenmorangie...
Fellow Drammers!
January 25th is coming up and you know what that means -- Burns night! A longstanding tradition of celebrating the birthday of the great Scotch-loving poet Robert Burns! In honor of this, we're hosting an online party where our guest speaker will be none other than the Global Brand Ambassador for The Glenmorangie Company: our dear friend -- and fellow Drammer -- David Blackmore.
We've recently had the pleasure of welcoming David in person at our Charlotte, NC chapter, and at our in person Murder Mystery Holiday party in NYC a few weeks ago, but we haven't had a chance to do a dedicated online event with him in a while. We're keeping this light and fun, runtime is expected to go from 7pm to 9pm EST (4pm to 7pm Pacific) -- an hour earlier than normal only because we've got our in person event in Denver that night starting at 8pm Mountain time. But that'll give us enough time to get into a little trouble. :)
We figured for this one we'd keep the price point and everything else about this event nice and friendly -- feel free to come ready to sing/read your favorite Robert Burns poem! We've got a separate, exciting (and higher price point) Ardbeg event coming up with much rarer bottles that we'll be announcing soon. But thanks to the generosity of our friends at The Glenmorangie Company, we've got some exciting bottles to drink all the same, 6 expressions in total:
Bacalta Private Edition: Bacalta is the gaelic word for "baked", which goes to the fact that this single malt scotch was finished in barrels that were "baked" under direct exposure to the sun. The barrels themselves were ex-Malmsey Madeira casks (the initial maturation was in ex-bourbon barrels). Yet another fun experimental release from Dr. Bill and the team at Glenmo. 46% abv.
A Tale of Winter Ltd. Ed. Yet another fun experimental release from Dr. Bill and the team at Glenmo -- this time finished in Marsala Wine cask, following up on the "Tale of Cake" release a year or so ago. 46% abv.
The Nectar D'Or. We've tried this at past events, but it certainly deserves another look -- this time they take the Glenmo whisky matured in ex-bourbon casks, and then finish it in sauternes casks. 46% abv.
The Quinta Ruban 14yo. Another classic in the Glenmo portfolio, this time a port cask finish, and unlike the others it features an age statement. The ruby port cask brings in bold fruit notes of course, but also some chocolate, yum. 46% abv.
The Original. No Glenmo event would be complete without including their 10yo staple as a crucial reference point. When we had Dr. Bill on in 2020, he explained that when you break down how much time he spends on his various roles, well over 50% of his total time is spent on making sure that this expression, the Original, 10yo, stays as consistent as possible and doesn't experience "brand drift" over time. Remarkable. 43% abv.
Artisan Cask. Ok, I know we said we wouldn't do this, but we couldn't help but include one bottle we'd picked up at auction -- the Artisan Cask bottling was released in 1995 as an experimental release that later evolved to become the much larger Astar release, which of course we've tried in the past. We've been saving this for a rainy day, and now seems like the perfect time to crack it. A heads up that its only 500ml, so it'll be a smaller pour on this than usual, but will be fun and likely a very rare opportunity to try this -- not many bottles of this floating around any more. 46% abv.
That's our lineup, we hope you can join us! The fun will start at 4pm Pacific / 7pm Eastern (Zoom details below).
Cheers,
