Fellow Drammers!

We’re very excited to announce a special online tasting on Sunday, February 19th at Noon Pacific / 3pm EST in the US and 20:00 in Scotland, with none other than John Campbell, formerly the Distillery Manager of Laphroaig, now the Production Manager at Lochlea Distillery. John worked at Laphroaig for over 27 years before announcing on September 27th of 2021 that he was stepping down from Laphroaig to take on the new role at the relatively new Lochlea distillery in the lowlands. As chance would have it, we visited with John at the Laphroaig distillery only a few days earlier on September 1, 2021, where he led us on a tour of the distillery (which you can see here). Lochlea had quietly been distilling and maturing spirits since August of 2018, so when John made the transition, Lochlea had only had something they could sell as “whisky” for a few days, and we’ve been anxiously awaiting the first series of releases under John’s watch at the new distillery. In the US, the “First Release” (that’s what it was called) hit shelves in January of this year, but we figured we’d wait a bit until they had more expressions that we could build into an event. On a recent trip to London, we secured four expressions released there:

  • Fallow Edition: First Crop. Single Malt Scotch matured in 1st fill Oloroso sherry casks, 46% abv

  • Sowing Edition: First Crop. Single Malt Scotch matured in 1st fill bourbon barrels, 48% abv

  • Harvest Edition: First Crop. Single Malt Scotch matured in a combination of port, sherry and bourbon casks. 46% abv.

  • Our Barley. Single Malt Scotch matured in a combination of bourbon, sherry and STR casks. 46% abv.

With that, we reached out and John was kind enough to say yes to doing an event. So, the tasting will include at least the 4 expressions above, and it will probably include their “First Release” US expression from January (as in we’ve ordered it, so as long as it arrives safely, it’ll be included, but no promises until we’ve got it in hand!).

We hope you can join us for what promises to be a truly memorable event.
