Hello Indy Drammers!
Our next event in Indianapolis is coming up next Thursday, February 16th at 7pm (doors at 6pm if anyone wants to join early), and a big thank you to Auri Rahimzadeh for hosting us again (address is 11228 Fountainview Lane, Fishers 46038).
We've pulled together a really fun lineup, which you can read about in more detail below, and we'll add a couple surprise pours too. We hope you can join us! As usual, anyone who has been to one of our events is welcome to invite friends to join.

BOTTLE LINEUP:
17yo George Dickel. In 2016, Cascade Hollow (which makes Dickel) released a limited edition 17yo in smaller 375ml bottles, which was a cult hit amongst Dickel fans, to the point that they've been getting requests for more ever since. Or so the story goes at least, and this is their attempt to recreate that hit release. We first heard about it a month or so ago, and thought it might be fun for the members to checkout (especially since the MSRP is $280ish, so a chance for members to try it first). From what we've read, the mashbill is the core Dickel recipe—84 percent corn, 8 percent rye and 8 percent malted barley—and it’s bottled at 92 proof.
1970s? 1980s? Dusty Famous Grouse Scotch. Sean picked up some old Scotch dusties, so we thought we'd open one up for fun. Famous Grouse is of course a blended scotch, and was apparently the market leader for 40 years. We're not really sure when this was bottled, we'll try to do some research on the packaging.
Indiana Kentucky Bourbon? We saw this bottle come up at an auction in Germany, and our first thought was "What on earth is that?". Of course our 2nd thought was -- we need to get that for our Indy chapter to try! This mystery bottle of "American Straight Whiskey" was clearly bottled for the European market (at 0.7L) and beyond that we don't know anything. Could be bottled in the 50s, 60s, 90s -- who knows. Guess we'll have to open it to find out...
Stauning Danish Whisky - 2 Drammers-Exclusive Single Barrels. Our latest picks to arrive are these two special single barrels from Stauning Danish Whisky -- a double oaked floor malted rye, and a peated single malt whisky, both selected by a majority vote of our members during a special online tasting event and distillery tour of Stauning. We're extremely proud to say that our barrels are the very first single barrels Stauning released in the United States.
Copper & Kings Brandy - Finished in a Tequila Cask. This barrel pick recently arrived from the Copper & Kings distillery in Louisville, Kentucky. They specialize in American brandy and here we've got a single barrel of brandy aged in a tequila cask, bottled at cask strength of 62.5% abv. It is available exclusively to members of our club.
Next up we'll turn to two single barrels of rum, both Drammers-exclusive single barrel picks, that we somehow never got around to tasting at our Indianapolis chapter:
Balcones Rum (Old Forester Bourbon Cask). We're proud to say this was the first time that Balcones ever let a single barrel of their rum go through their single barrel program -- they usually kept their exceptional rum casks for their gift shop exclusives. Aged in an Old Forester bourbon cask, and bottled at an eerie 66.6% abv, this is one hefty (and tasty!) rum.
Dakabend Oaxacan Rum. And now for something completely different -- distilled from the sugar cane juice, rather than the usual molasses, so more in the "rhum agricole" camp, which is much funkier and usually presented unaged. There is an unaged Dakabend in the market, but as an experiment they aged 3 barrels of Dakabend for 4 years, which we spotted at their distillery, which is located 5 hours into the mountains outside of Oaxaca centro. "What are you going to do with them?" we asked? They weren't sure, so we asked if we could buy one. It's all rhum agricole on the nose, which freaks some people out, but the barrel aging has done its work too, so it's all warm and cuddly on the palate. A very, very rare bottle of Mexican rum.
