Hello St. Louis Drammers!

We're delighted to be getting our St. Louis chapter going again, kicking things off with an event on Wednesday, February 15th.  We're in the process of assembling a great lineup of rare and unusual spirits (we describe 6 of the bottles we'll be drinking below, and we'll be adding a couple surprise pours).

Address:  700 Tuxedo Blvd., Webster Groves, Missouri 63119

We hope you can join us!  A big thank you to Patrick Conaty for organizing! As always, anyone who has been to one of our events is welcome to invite friends to join, which you can do through this link.

Cheers,
Drammers Club

Some of the Bottles We’ll Be Drinking:

  • Stauning Danish Whisky - 2 Single Barrels (Double-Oaked Rye and Peated Single Malt).  Our latest picks to arrive are these two special single barrels from Stauning Danish Whisky -- a double oaked floor malted rye (note:  *malted* rye), and a hefty peated single malt whisky, both selected by a majority vote of our members during a special online tasting event and distillery tour of Stauning.  We're extremely proud to say that our barrels are the very first single barrels Stauning released in the United States.

  • Kaiyo Japanese Whisky, Mizunara Cask Matured (2 different Single Casks).  If this was a Hollywood log line, you might call this Yamazaki meets Jefferson's Ocean, with a touch of juniper!  These two single barrels could not be more different -- one tastes like sugar cookies, the other I would have guessed was an aged gin if I'd tasted it blind.  They are really distilled in Japan btw -- they only don't say 'Japanese Whisky" on the label because they are partially aged at sea, Jefferson's style (so, if you take the Scottish approach that it has to be fully aged on land, then were Japan to have enforcable laws identical to the Scotch industry, you wouldn't be able to call it "Japanese Whisky".  We'll get into all that at the tasting -- for now suffice it to say that they're damn tasty.  They’re both unchillfiltered and bottled at cask strength of 56% abv.

  • New Riff Bourbon - Jack Rose Saloon Premier Drams Barrel.  Jack Rose Saloon in Washington DC is widely considered one of the best whiskey bars in America -- some would say THE best, and we're proud to call them our friends.  They pulled out some special single barrels only available at their big annual whiskey festival ("Premier Drams"), including this barrel of bourbon from New Riff.  Luckily we were at the festival and scooped up a few bottles. 56.8% abv.

  • Copper & Kings Brandy - Finished in a Tequila Cask.  This barrel pick recently arrived from the Copper & Kings distillery in Louisville, Kentucky.  They specialize in American brandy and here we've got a single barrel of brandy aged in a tequila cask, bottled at cask strength of 62.5% abv.
