We’re thrilled to announce that Julieann Fernandez, the Master Blender for Bunnahabhain, will be joining us for a special online tasting on Saturday, August 24th at Noon Pacific / 3pm Eastern / 8pm in Scotland. Our club was on hand at the distillery in May for their big annual Feis Ile open day, and they released some big bottles that could only be gotten that day at the distillery. Naturally, we scooped them up so that you’d have a chance to try them. And while those pours will sadly almost certainly be a once-in-a-lifetime chance to try them, we also rounded out the lineup with some of their releases you can get here in the US, which we brought in to our retail partner www.DRINQY.com. Check out this lineup:

  • Feis Ile 2024 Single Cask Release - 27yo Moscatel Finish. 1 of only 264 bottles released. The distillery describes it as “a delicate and gentle dram with notes of orange blossom, honeysuckle and a lingering sweet finish. Unpeated, distilled 7 Nov. 1996, recasked in a moscatel sherry cask on 5 Mar. 2014, bottled in 2023, and only available on Bunna’s open day at Feis Ile this year. 46.6% abv.

  • Feis Ile 2024 - 19yo Moine Madeira Cask Finish. 1 of 881 botles. “A lingering sweet and smoky dram with a hint of sea spray.” Moine is gaelic for smoky btw. Distilled 12 Dec. 2004, initially matured in ex-bourbon casks, then transferred into Madeira Hogsheads on 7 June 2016 to finish in Warehouse 8 at Bunna. 51.2% abv.

  • Feis Ile 2024 - Handfill - 6yo Staoisha Heavily Peated. There was a lot of buzz about this one at the festival — we’ll have to confirm with Julieann, but this may be THE most heavily peated Bunna ever released, made from malted barley that boasted a startling 65ppm. It was only available in handfill 50cl bottles, so naturally we arranged to get two of them so we could include it in this tasting. 60.4% abv.

  • Distillery-Exclusive Handfill: 2003 Moine Rum Finish (Cask #300114). Distilled 2003 and bottled in 2023. One of our favorite parts about visiting the distillery is they always have a rich selection of single casks that are only available on site at their gift shop, so we had to include one here. 53.3% abv.

  • Toiteach A Dhà. Ok, we’ll stop the torture and include a few expressions you can actually drink again after this tasting. This one, which translates to “Smoky Two” is (as the name implies) a Moine or peated expression, made from a mix of ex-bourbon and ex-sherry casks (available at DRINQY for $75/bottle).

  • Bunnahabhain 12yo. Definitely their most iconic release, they have been making this expression for over 40 years now. Unpeated, a mix of ex-bourbon and ex-sherry casks. 46.3% abv.

  • Stiuireadair. A non-age statement, more modestly priced released from Bunna ($44). Julieann creates this predominantly from first and 2nd fill sherry casks. 46.3% abv

  • Surprise Bonus Pour. We’re giving ourselves a little wiggle room here to add something fun to the lineup. ;)
