We had so much fun at the recent Feis Ile Bunnahabhain Open Day tasting on Islay hanging out with Master Blender Julieann Fernandez, we figured we’d keep the party going with this online tasting on Sunday, August 20th, starting at Noon Pacific / 3pm Eastern / 20:00 in Scotland. Julieann will be joining us live from Scotland to give us a deep dive into what she’s working on at Bunnahabhain and her process of creating the trio of limited edition bottlings they released for Feis Ile 2023. We’ll also do our best to give you a sense of what it’s like to get a private tasting in their celebrated Warehouse 9 — we brought back in our suitcase 4 hand-filled exclusive Warehouse 9 bottlings, only available at the distillery. Specifically, we’ll be drinking 7 expressions:
2023 Feis Ile Bottling: 1998 Manzanilla Cask Finish. So at least a 24yo, this Bunna was finished in Manzanilla sherry casks “to create a warmly welcoming dram, with notes of salt and spice” in their words. 52.3% abv.
2023 Feis Ile Bottling: 17 Year Old Moine Triple Cask. A marriage of three peated drams including an Oloroso Finish, Bourbon Matured and Rum Finish, it has flavours reminiscent of rum and raisin ice cream, our Master Blender, Julieann Fernandez's, favourite! 52.6% abv.
2023 Feis Ile Bottling: Canasta Cask Matured. Fully matured in rare Canasta sherry casks, “this unpeated whisky is bursting with sweet fruit, nuts and spice notes”. 51.2% abv
Handfilled Exclusive: 2006 Manzanilla Cask. So at least a 16yo. From Warehouse 9, Filled 14//4/23, cask #1630, bottled at 58.6% abv.
Handfilled Exclusive: 2013 Bourbon Barrel. From Warehouse 9, Filled 23/5/23, cask #649, bottled at 56.8% abv.
Handfilled Exclusive: 2014 Canasta Cask. From Warehouse 9, Filled 23/5/23, cask #2736, bottled at 60.8% abv. It’ll be fun to compare this to the older 2006 Canasta-cask-matured release!
Handfilled Exclusive: 2014 Oloroso Butt. From Warehouse 9, Filled 23/5/23, cask #925, bottled at 60.1% abv.
That’s one helluva lineup. Please note that while we have the 4 handfill exclusives in hand, the 3 bottles of Feis Ile 2023 bottlings are in the mail so to speak, so there’s always a small chance they don’t make it and we need to get creative, but hopefully unlikely. We hope you can join us!
