Fellow Drammers!

For our next Drammers Book Club entry, we’re delighted to welcome the author of one of the most talked-about whisky books in recent memory. Written by Nicholas Morgan at the prodding of the team from The Whisky Exchange, the book Everything You Need to Know About Whisky (But Were Too Afraid to Ask) features a fearless look at whisky myths, the industry in general, and prominent media, influencers and other figureheads in the scene. It was initially published in the UK (I picked up a copy at the Whisky Exchange), and only came out in the US a few months ago (Dec. 16th I believe, but don’t hold me to that). The author doesn’t shy away from controversial topics — in the first few pages, he unequivocally declares that grain varietals don’t matter, a topic we’ve discussed at length, and of course we know a number of our friends in the industry would disagree heartily with that claim. And that’s just one of many examples. Throughout the book is well-written and a fun read, ending with an incredible history of the media of whisky unlike any whisky book that I know of.

We’re working on assembling a set of 5 samples that will serve as a launching point for discussing various aspects of the book. We’re talking with Nick now about what expressions we’ll include and will update this when we have it settled. In the meantime, everyone is encouraged to buy the book on their own (it is available in hardcover format and ebook format at Amazon and elsewhere).

Please note that considering the time difference (Mr. Morgan will be joining us from the UK), the event (now with the rescheduled date) will be Sunday May 1st starting at Noon Pacific / 3pm Eastern / 20:00 in Scotland. We hope you can join us, please let us know if you have any questions.

Cheers,
Charlie
